Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Interlaken

Höheweg 74, Interlaken, Bern, 3800, Switzerland

The oldest hotel in town, the Hotel Interlaken has been hosting overnight guests since 1323—first as a hospital, then as a cloister, and by the early 15th century as a tavern. Felix Mendelssohn and George Gordon, Lord Byron may have slept here, but today the comfortable guest rooms are quite up-to-date, with sleek and eye-catching Alpine-chic furnishings. A multicultural air is added by the elaborate Japanese garden and the international menus. It's a short walk to the Interlaken Ost train station, making excursions a snap. For the budget-minded who want to enjoy the same location and breakfast, there are rooms of a simpler nature on the fifth floor.
