Fodor's Expert Review Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey

The ancient Guanches' name for their kings was mencey, and you'll feel like one at this grand, white stucco-and-marble hotel north of the city center. Built in 1950, its guest list has included Elizabeth Taylor, James Brown, and Sophia Loren, and the hotel still exudes timeless elegance with crystal chandeliers, original frescoes, and a traditional Canarian patio with a turtle pool. Rooms, mostly white and minimally decorated, are less impressive than the public areas, which include a newly refitted gym, modern Canarian restaurant, and spa (fee).
