Fodor's Expert Review Euskal Museoa Bilbao Museo Vasco

Bilbao History Museum

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

The world's best museum on Basque ethnography (and Bilbao's cultural history) occupies a 16th-century convent. Highlights include El Mikeldi, a pre-Christian, Iron Age stone animal representation that may be 4,000 years old; the room dedicated to Basque shepherds and the pastoral way of life; and the exhibit "Mar de los Vascos" ("Sea of the Basques") about whaling, fishing, and maritime activities. Placards are in Spanish and Basque only.
