Port Charlotte
Planned by a benevolent 19th-century laird (and named after his mom), Port Charlotte is an unusually (for Scotland) pretty village, with wild landscapes and sandy beaches nearby. South of the village, the A847 road leads to Portnahaven and Port Wemyss, where pleasing white cottages stand in a crescent around the headland.
