Fodor's Review

The famous Glenlivet was the first licensed distillery in the Highlands, founded in 1824 by George Smith. Today it produces one of the best-known 12-year-old single malts in the world. The free distillery tour reveals the inside of the huge bonded warehouse where the whisky steeps in oak casks. The tour has two aspects: the Spirit of the Glen examines how unique factors come together to make this nectar, and the 45-minute distillery tour looks at the dream of the distillery's founder. There is another tour—the Glenlivet Inspiration (£35)–-and a tutored tasting session, the Legacy Experience (£60), for those who can't get enough. There's a coffee shop with baked goods and, of course, a whisky shop. Glenlivet is 10 miles southwest of Aberlour via A95 and B9008.
