Fodor's Expert Review DOP
Chef Rui Paula won national fame with reinventions of Portuguese classics at his restaurant DOC, upriver on the Douro. Now he's thrilling Porto foodies in this elegant refitted palace with star dishes likebacalhau com broa (codfish with corn bread), and stewed tripas—if you've tried this Porto dish elsewhere, you'll be amazed by Paula's ultralight version. There are vegetarian options; a wide, eclectic selection of wines by the bottle (from €17) or glass; and desserts featuring typical regional produce such as quince and chestnuts. The €20 three-course tasting menu, served at lunch, is one of the best deals in town.
