Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Trajano

The subdued basement restaurant of the Hotel Trajano is a good place to try the presunto (smoked ham) for which the town is famous. Truta á transmontana (river trout wrapped in paper-thin slices of smoked ham) is another good choice, served with boiled potatoes and salad. There's a reasonably priced selection of local wines to accompany your meal, which is served promptly on elegantly rustic monogrammed plates. The good service continues upstairs, where the hotel's pleasant guest rooms are cheerily decorated in Portuguese country style. There's a covered terrace to sit out on as well.
