Fodor's Expert Review De Roode Leeuw
Timeless and classic, De Roode Leeuw is a light along a strip of otherwise uninspiring road; it's one of the few non–fast food restaurants around packed Dam Square. The fare is poshed-up Dutch food, like herring with crab and beetroot, traditional pea soup with Zeeland bacon, or Beemsterland pork with the stamppot (potatoes with veggies and meat) of the day. It gets busy with passing tourists but this restaurant is worth a stop if you're shopping at the nearby de Bijenkorf department store and need a pick-me-up.
