Fodor's Expert Review Marriott Grand Hotel Flora
Via Veneto 191, Rome, Latium, 00187, Italy See on Map
This handsome hotel at the top of Via Veneto next to the Villa Borghese park is something of a beacon on the Rome landscape. The Grand Hotel Flora's standard of excellence is among the highest in the Eternal City, and its guest rooms are among the largest, with spacious bathrooms. No expense has been spared in decorating the rooms and suites: each is unique, and carefully chosen antiques grace them all. Many face the enchanting gardens of Villa Borghese. There's a fitness center, spa, and a lovely rooftop-garden restaurant located on the seventh floor.
room
If you're sick of the cramped style of the majority of Roman hotel rooms, head here. The luxurious rooms feature hardwood flooring, silk curtains, Art Deco-inspired furniture, and huge fluffy beds for the perfect sleep. Windows are soundproofed and each room has satellite TV and WiFi. Evening turndown service is included and a morning newspaper upon request. Rooms on higher floors have higher rates and more amenities included.
The two-bedroom presidential suite has a view looking directly onto the old Roman walls.
bathroom
Bathrooms are also ample many with both shower and bathtub in rich golden marble. There's plenty of counter space and a generous supply of house toiletries.
lobby
The neoclassical lobby is rich in marble monuments, grand lighting and fresh flowers. A domed skylight gives the classical room a light, airy feel. There's a large seating area with international newspapers. Reception is fully staffed to help out around the clock with any needs.
gym
A small gym has top-of-the-line Technogym cardio machines and weights. A stretching wall is a big plus after long flights.
LOCATION
Getting Around
Via Veneto is the center of Rome and you'll be able to walk anywhere you please. The Barberini Metro Station is a 7-minute walk away, and you'll find plenty of taxis there as well.
Restaurants
Al Boschetto (19-minute walk) looks simple from the outside, but the simple home-cooked meals are always delicious and priced just right. Aromaticus (21-minute walk) feels like walking into a private garden. They serve fresh organic meats and salads, and all of the plants and seeds on the walls are also for sale.
WHY WE LIKE IT
This hotel earns its five stars with their round-the-clock service. Staff are always on call to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We love the extra-large rooms and decked-out bathrooms. The modern gym is a bonus, but with Villa Borghese just outside, you might prefer the jogging path. With Via Veneto just the other way, you'll experience the luxe Roman life any way you turn.
