La Scalinatella

Via Tragara 10, Capri, Campania, 80073, Italy

Fodor’s Expert Review

If you're bronzed and beautiful, or just bronzed, or even just beautiful, this is your kind of hotel. A white Moorish mansion out of the Arabian Nights, it conjures up Capri in finest Hollywood fashion. The name means "little stairway," and that's how this charmingly small hotel is built, on terraces following the slope of the hills, with winding paths and bougainvillea arbors. Inside, the decor is Architectural Digest–opulent, with Venetian blackamoor statues, Empire-era consoles, and Valentino fabrics. Guest rooms have overstuffed sofas, bright colors, large terraces, and his-and-her bathrooms (most have whirlpool baths). Outside, one of Capri's bluest pools is the fetching setting for delicious luncheons.

PROS

  • all rooms have a sea view
  • his-and-her bathrooms

CONS

  • a bit removed from the center
  • main pool visible from main road
