The vibrantly colored vernacular facades that follow the hilly terrain of this ocean-harbor village, nestled in the shadows of the Twelve Bens Mountains, make for the most photogenic streetscape in the West of Ireland. Art, crafts, and custom-made musical instruments workshops line the street along with inviting restaurants and pubs. The village's terraced buildings overlook a deep blue bay, which is peppered with small fishing trawlers, traditional currachs (large, tar-lacquered canoes) and rowboats. Roundstone featured as the main setting for the 1997 romantic comedy movie The Matchmaker, starring Janeane Garofalo and Milo O'Shea.
