Fodor's Expert Review Adria
Liebigstr. 8a, Munich, Bavaria, 80538, Germany, Munich, Germany See on Map
This modern hotel in the Lehel area is near a number of great museums and stumbling distance from the lovely English Garden, with fairly large rooms that are tastefully decorated. There's no hotel restaurant, but there is a breakfast room with a buffet. The common areas are a little bland, but the rooms are keenly priced and the hotel is well-run. Popular with business and leisure travelers.
YOU SHOULD KNOW For guests with mobility issues, there are some steps to reach the elevator.
Rooms are described as 'Mediterranean' in decor, which we think just means 'orange' (with the occasional slightly odd faux fresco), but they are reasonably bright and pleasant. Beds are firm, and often two single beds are bolted together to become a double.
Family rooms are well-priced and can accommodate babies up to teenagers. The hotel even provides a changing table with the cot, a nice touch for new parents.
Bathrooms are a good size. Some have bathtubs, and some have showers--it's worth asking if you have a preference.
The hotel lobby is a bit underwhelming, with red chairs and carpets and cream walls, but the staff are friendly and keen to help.
Breakfast is served in the cheery breakfast room, and is a decent spread, including good coffees and teas.
The hotel is well-located in Lehel, close enough to walk into the sights (and very good for watching the surfers on the Eisbachwelle). The U-bahn stop is nearby, too.
For delicious upscale Vietnamese food, the staff at Adria recommend Tempel (4-minute walk), close to the hotel. Or try Liebighof im Lehel or Tattenbach for typical Bavarian food, both less than 200 meters from the hotel's front door (2-minute walks).
Don't miss the Hofbräuhaus (12-minute walk), one of Munich's best lively beerhalls. Or Roosevelt's (4-minute walk) is a great new bar with good service and cocktails nearby.
WHY WE LIKE IT
Functional and friendly, Adria is a welcoming modern hotel in a quiet, green location on the edge of Munich's tourist sights. It's not particularly quirky and original, but it's comfortable and affordable, and sometimes that's all a city breaker needs.
