Relais Christine
Why it made the list
In designer Laura Gonzalez's able hands, this former Saint-Germain mansion, tucked back in a hidden courtyard, was gloriously restored in 2017 to a style befitting the Saint-Germain-des-Près aristocrats who once lived here. Luxurious fabrics from neighborhood designers Pierre Frey and Manuel Canovas, bespoke furniture, and elegant black marble baths, not to mention your own private garden in the Garden Suites, evoke the height of Left Bank luxury.
Shangri-La Hotel Paris
Why it made the list
This is the only hotel in Paris where you have a 50-50 chance of an Eiffel Tower view from your room, but not in Prince Roland Bonaparte's private chambers. The eccentric aristocrat hated the Iron Lady and insisted on private rooms on the other side of the mansion. We're pretty sure you'll be consoled by this grand apartment's exquisite gilded woodwork, original frescoes, fireplaces, precious chandeliers and antiques, and enormous marble bathroom, all intricately restored by master artisans.
Buddha-Bar Hôtel Paris
Why it made the list
It may seem hard to believe that the Asian-inspired red-and-gold lacquered walls of this ultra-chic hotel were once populated by the beribboned ladies and powdered gentleman of the upscale Faubourg Saint-Honoré. But one peek into the (listed) second floor Historic and Grand Historic suites, meticulously restored to their 18th-century grandeur, with soaring ceilings, intricate gilded moldings, fresoes, and an award-winning 300-sq-ft bathroom, complete with the original fireplace and you'll get it.
Pavillon de la Reine
Why it made the list
From the moment you step through the elegant wrought-iron gates of this charming estate, tucked away behind the beautiful Place des Vosges, you're transported to the 17th-century, when the mansion was an adjunct of the royal palace. No expense was spared to convert the mansion to today's hotel, where guests sip cocktails on the ancient cobbled terrace and slumber under hand-hewn eaves.
