Samaná Peninsula Surfing

Surfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, and kitesurfing are popular in Las Terrenas. Playa Cosón has the best breaks. Playa Bonita is another popular spot, because, as on Cosón, there are no rocks. Two-hour lessons are about $35, and a one-day board rental runs approximately $25; it's usually $15 for a half-day.

Carolina Surf School. Named for its proprietress, Dominican Republic National Surf Champion Carolina Guiterraz, the school rents surfboards and SUPs in addition to its lessons. She is especially dedicated to teaching children and beginners and has a large local following. There's no website, but you can email for more information.
