Exuma restaurants are known for terrific Bahamian home cooking—cracked conch, pan-seared snapper caught that morning, coconut fried shrimp, fried chicken served with peas ’n' rice, or macaroni baked with egg and loads of cheese. Try conch salad at the cluster of wooden shacks called the Fish Fry, just north of George Town. Pea soup and dumplings (made with pigeon peas) is a specialty here, and many local restaurants serve it as a weekly lunch special, usually on Wednesday.
Restaurants at larger resorts have upscale dining, including Continental twists on local cuisine—fresh snapper with mango salsa—as well as imported steaks, rack of lamb, and gourmet pizzas.
The number one place to stop for ice cream in Great Exuma is this quaint, colorful restaurant that sits on the beach. Visitors usually plan to make it a quick stop, but end up staying for the stunning ocean views from the back deck. Wraps, milkshakes, wings, and many Bahamian favorites are also on the menu for lunch and dinner.

Located in central George Town, just across from Peace & Plenty, this Sandpiper Cafe (formerly Driftwood Cafe) is a pleasant spot for a cup of coffee and a hot breakfast sandwich in the morning. Sandpiper also offers lunch, with specialties such as pizza, subs, and salads, served with fresh lemonade or iced tea. Choose between air-conditioned seating inside or tables outside on the private terrace.
