Don't let the outdoor dining on rustic wood tables fool you—Harbour Island and Eleuthera offer sophisticated cuisine that rivals that of any restaurants in Nassau. Although the place is usually casual and you never have to wear a tie, food is taken seriously. Of course, island specialties such as cracked conch, barbecued pork or chicken, and the succulent Bahamian lobster most locals call crawfish still abound, but you'll also find cappuccinos, steak, and lobster ravioli. Stop by Harbour Island's conch shacks on Bay Street north of Government Dock, where you can eat fresh conch salad on decks next to the water.
Most eateries are closed Sunday. Many restaurants have entertainment on regular nights so plan your dining schedule accordingly.
A few miles south of Governor's Harbour, this casual neighborhood restaurant specializes in pizza but also serves sandwiches, cocktails, and Bahamian favorites. The walls are painted with tropical sunset scenes and decorated with photos and random memorabilia, which add to the restaurant's local flair.
This easily overlooked restaurant is a favorite among Eleuthera natives. While it may not look like it from the outside, New Sunset Inn serves some of the most delicious Bahamian dishes on the island. There's an indoor dining area along with a dining deck that features stunning views of the harbor. It's a great place to have a quiet dinner, and the staff is friendly and accommodating.
This small and unassuming shack is where you'll find the best dessert in Spanish Wells. Soft-serve homemade ice cream in a variety of flavors like white chocolate, coconut, and cheesecake keeps visitors coming back every night to Papa's Scoops' front yard. The ice-cream flavors change daily and are posted on their Instagram and Facebook pages.
Enjoy a moonlit dinner on Runaway Hill's beachfront veranda, with views of the pink-sand beach and turquoise waters along with sounds of the ocean waves. Chef Krishna Higgs specializes in Bahamian cuisine, combining local ingredients with global flavors. The atmosphere feels like a private club, with a handsome 1920s interior. The menu always features a fresh catch of the day, and often includes Bahamian lobster and grouper.
Owned by Sammy Culmer and managed by his friendly daughter Margarita, Sammy's is a casual restaurant where you can enjoy great service and authentic Eleutheran food. Sammy's serves conch and fish burgers, a baked chicken dinner, and a variety of club sandwiches and salads.
This waterfront pavilion at Romora Bay Resort perfectly frames sunsets over Harbour Island, so be sure to get here in time to snag a good seat for the show. Popular with locals, the restaurant serves mid-priced Bahamian specialties, such as conch fritters, for a casual lunch or dinner. The bartender is always happy to create drinks just to suit your vibe.
This brightly painted restaurant is famous for its frozen daiquiris and range of local cuisine. Icy mixes of strawberry and piña colada are swirled into a striking (and delicious) dessert cocktail. Bahamian fare is available at lunch and dinner in the casual outdoor dining area. There's no harbor view, but the alfresco atmosphere is pleasant nonetheless.
You'll find the most delicious Bahamian meals at Unca Gene's casual, seaside restaurant, as well as delicious burgers and pasta dishes. The restaurant has a homey feel, painted in light blue, with an outside dining patio where guests can enjoy the cool sea breeze while they eat.
