On a stellar expanse of beachfront, the Occidental Grand (now a Barcelo hotel) offers something for everyone with great nightly entertainment and an eclectic choice of dining. Much of the activity surrounds the cloverleaf-shape pool with its waterfall, whirlpool tubs, and "Iguana Island" full of friendly lizards. The rooms, fitness center, and the buffet dining area have recently been renovated, and more improvements are planned in 2016 while the casino remains closed. Those seeking a more upscale all-inclusive stay can upgrade to Royal Club level—a resort within a resort providing a more premium experience, including an exclusive restaurant and luxurious lounge.
