Fodor's Expert Review Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo
2–2–1 Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo, 160-8330, Japan See on Map
Combining old world and new, Keio Plaza is a sprawling property that guests will be hard-pressed not to like. There are 15 restaurants, seven bars, a rare-for-Tokyo outdoor pool, a traditional tea house, Japanese suites, and last but not least – Hello Kitty bedrooms. There’s something for everyone at this classic hotel, and if you can’t find what you’re looking for, than you’re not looking hard enough.
room
Standard rooms all come with Handy devices (a portable hot-spot device that gives you free Wi-Fi anywhere in Tokyo in addition to free international phone calls). The higher you go, the better the views, but to make the most of your stay here, book one of their special rooms. The Japanese Suite is a traditional-style room with tatami mat floors, shoji screens, Hinoki wood bathtub, and even its own small garden. For something completely different, book one of the Hello Kitty rooms, which is is decked out in all things Hello Kitty and comes with little surprises that you’ll have to book to see!
There are also four-person rooms that are ideal for groups of friends or families who want to stay together.
bathroom
Depending on the room quality, you’ll get standard Shiseido products or lux l’Occitane products. Most standard rooms have shower/tub combos, Toto toilets, and gray-tiled floors.
lobby
As you walk through the massive lobby you’ll find marble floors, elegant crystal chandeliers, and a museum with rotating exhibits based on the season.
On top of everything else, you’ll find a clinic, a day center, and a convenience store inside.
pool
Fairly unique to Tokyo, the hotel has an outdoor pool, but it’s only open from June to September.
spa
Famed brand Carju Rajah runs the hotel’s spa and comes with four treatment rooms and steam facilities for women.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Men might want to find pampering elsewhere as this spa is almost entirely dedicated to the ladies.
gym
A small gym is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and equipped with Precor machines on top of a polished cement floor. There are big windows that look out over the city.
dining
There are 15 dining outlets here including seven Japanese restaurants. Sushi lovers should check out Kyubey while Kaiseki fiends will want to dive into Wagyu at Soujuan.

drinking
There is no shortage of drinking options here either. For cocktail lovers, there’s the Sky Lounge on the 45th floor. If sake is your jam, head to Amanogawa for rare varietals. You’ll find live music at Brillant (sic), and even a dedicated Karaoke spot at Karaoke47!
LOCATION
Getting Around
The area around the hotel is very walkable and it’s only a few minutes from the nearest subway station. If you want to head to Tokyo Disney, the hotel provides a free shuttle bus.
Restaurants
If you’d like some sensory overload with your supper, check out Robot Restaurant (12-minute walk) for what we’d say is a unique version of dinner theater. If you want a mouthwatering burger while also feasting on the best views of the city, check out the Park Hyatt’s New York Bar & Grill (12-minute walk).
WHY WE LIKE IT
You saw that they have Hello Kitty rooms, right? Beyond that, this hotel is massive and has something for everyone. Modern amenities abound, but a sense of traditionalism is equally abundant. The hotel offers a variety of experiences to its guests like a traditional tea ceremony, a kimono experience, and many more. If there’s a downside it’s that it might feel too big and service may suffer (but only slightly) and you’ll only be able to use the pool in the summer. But generally speaking, if you can’t find what you’re looking for here, you’ll probably have trouble no matter where you go.
