Fodor's Expert Review The Oberoi
216, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Rd, Churchgate, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400021, India See on Map Fodor's Choice
Overlooking posh Marine Drive and the Arabian Sea, the Oberoi Mumbai is one of Mumbai’s most luxurious hotels, offering deluxe rooms, fine dining, and stellar service that define the Oberoi brand. Much more than a generic city hotel, the Oberoi Mumbai is home to two of Mumbai’s finest restaurants, an out-of-this-world presidential suite (where Michael Jackson has stayed) and a pool and spa where you can escape the beautiful chaos of Mumbai’s busy streets.
room
Rooms here range from standard (but still deluxe) rooms with top-of-the-line amenities to outrageously luxurious presidential suites that offer multiple rooms, first-class security, and a bird’s-eye-view of the sparkling city.
bathroom
The bathrooms at the Oberoi are outfitted with top-of-the-line standalone tubs and rain showers.
lobby
For a city where space is at a premium, the giant lobby and atrium with skylights is an outstanding luxury. There’s giant slabs of black-and-white marble, greenery everywhere, and a giant bouquet of flowers that perfumes the entire hotel.
pool
The rooftop pool is a great place to relax after a busy day exploring the city.
spa
The spa is open 24 hours and offers both traditional Indian and Western treatments.
gym
The gym is open 24 hours.
dining
Along with an all-day dining restaurant where you can indulge in an international breakfast buffet, the Oberoi Mumbai is home to two of Mumbai’s most noteworthy fine-dining experiences: Ziya and Vetro. Ziya serves contemporary Indian cuisine, with modern and adventurous takes on classics with a molecular gastronomy spin. Even if you’re not staying at the Oberoi, it’s worth a visit to this exciting restaurant. Vetro is a high-end traditional Italian restaurant (arguably the best in town) with an impressive wine list and a kitchen full of chefs who trained in Rome.
LOCATION
Getting Around
The hotel is located about an hour’s drive from the airport (depending on traffic). Traffic in Mumbai is notoriously bad, so it’s not the best place to rent a car. The hotel can arrange airport transfers and taxi service anywhere in the city.
Restaurants
Neel (18-minute drive) is one of India's finest restaurants, serving sophisticated modern Indian cuisine. Old-school Apoorva (10-minute drive) offers delightful (and affordable) seafood in a no-frills setting.
WHY WE LIKE IT
The hotel caters equally to business travelers and tourists. The excellent location makes this luxury (yet affordable!) hotel a great hub for exploring Mumbai.
