Fodor's Expert Review Booth Lodge

11 Wing Sing Lane, Kowloon, n/a Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

At this surprisingly pleasant budget retreat, operated by the Salvation Army for the past quarter of a century, everything is bright and clean, from the walls to the starched sheets on the firm double beds in the Spartan but large rooms. The coffee shop serves buffets and has a small, outdoor balcony overlooking the neighborhood. There's not much action in the immediate neighborhood, but transport by subway and bus is a breeze and a 10-minute walk brings you to the heart of the Mong Kok shopping frenzy.

PROS

  • clean but no-frills lodgings at a bargain price

CONS

  • noisy vehicle and foot traffic on the main street
