Uganda Railway Museum
Located at the historic Jinja Railway Station, the museum traces the British colonial government–funded construction of the railway from Mombasa through Kenya to Lake Victoria at the end of the 19th century. Nicknamed "the Lunatic Express" due to the eye-watering construction cost, not to forget the tragic number of worker casualties, the railway was a game changer, opening the East African interior to global trade. Enthusiastic staff guide visitors around the two-room exhibit of maps, original artifacts, and railway worker testimonies. Nostalgia buffs will love climbing inside the original locomotive engine; the whole family will enjoy the short film on display in the converted train carriage. Tickets are purchased at the museum; the entry fee includes a guided tour.
