The 10 Most Exciting New Roller Coasters in the U.S. for 2025

Thrills await.

Grab on tight or fling your arms into the air; roller coasters are the only mad-dash ride where screaming is encouraged. This is a banner year for roller coaster enthusiasts. Universal’s Epic Universe, Orlando’s world-class new theme park, opens with four genre-defining roller coasters, while many other record-breaking roller coasters open nationwide. Thrilling family coasters continue their rise in popularity, offering smoother and more accessible rides for a new generation of coaster lovers. This season also sees the continued effective use of launch coasters, swapping out the classic lift hill for a much more rousing start. Read on to find out which new coasters made the list and start making your summer theme park plans now.

Stardust Racers

WHERE: Universal's Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida

Stardust Racers is a remarkable feat of playful innovation. A two-track, dueling launch coaster with two powerful launches that replace lift hills, these coasters alone would easily rank high on any coaster-lover’s list, with their forceful speeds, incredible airtime elements, and extended track that sends you out for 90 non-stop seconds. This coaster is elevated to another stratosphere, as these two nearly identical tracks intertwine for a sensational tête-à-tête. Believe the hype about the coaster’s “Celestial Spin” inversion, as the trains invert and crisscross atop each other. As for the debate between which of the two tracks to choose, Photon (yellow) and Pulsar (green) offer nearly the same ride experience, though Pulsar is known to be slightly more intense.

Rapterra

WHERE: Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia

The world’s tallest and longest-launched wing coaster, Rapterra, arrives as the 13th coaster at Kings Dominion. The high-speed ride mimics the flight of a Jungle Hawk, launching the unique side-seated train at speeds of 65 mph in four seconds. From the initial launch, you’ll soar along a trim-free track, with three inversions including a dive loop and flat spin corkscrew, before finishing with a 360° raptor roll. The comfortable bucket seats on the train are suspended on either side of the track, giving a unique and freeing ride experience with nothing above or below riders. The ride experience is slightly different on each side of the track, so hop on to each side if the timing allows!

Siren’s Curse

WHERE: Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio

The Roller Coaster Capital of the World adds another jewel this season with the record-breaking Siren’s Curse. This new tilt coaster will be North America’s tallest, fastest, and longest, with a compact track packed with surprises. A tilt coaster is unique as you “dead stop” at the top of the lift hill, hovering above a 90-degree drop for seconds. Once the track sets into place, gravity takes control and sends you barreling down into the track at speeds that reach 58 mph. The ride’s theme is tied to its location on Lake Erie, where lore tells of “sirens” from Greek mythology, known for sending sailors to their demise. This is a nice touch of eerie right on Erie. Also of note, Top Thrill 2 will officially be open the entire season. Due to engineering issues, the 420-foot, 120-mph reboot of Top Thrill Dragster shut down early during its debut season last year. It returns for what promises to be Cedar Point’s most popular season yet.

Quantum Accelerator

WHERE: Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts

This summer, a new family launch coaster joins the thrill-packed line-up at Six Flags New England, further cementing this park as a northeast coaster destination. Quantum Accelerator is the park’s first straddle coaster, with train seats resembling a motorcycle. Saddle up and you’ll bolt off with two launches that send you soaring up to 45 mph with 11 airtime moments. The track’s many tight twists and turns will be thrilling from the unique seat, especially as the track hugs the ground. Other family favorites at the park include the spinning madness at Pandemonium and the wild mouse, Gotham City Gauntlet: Escape from Arkham Asylum.

The Big Bad Wolf: The Wolf’s Revenge

WHERE: Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia

Big Bad Wolf’s legacy lives on with The Big Bad Wolf: The Wolf’s Revenge, Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s newest roller coaster addition. The Big Bad Wolf was a fan favorite that lasted in the park for over 25 years before closing in 2007. This year, a new generation will delight at the chance to enjoy an inverted family coaster honoring its original predecessor. Busch Gardens Williamsburg is excellent with its ride theming (Verbolten’s black forest theming is a masterpiece), and this new ride is no exception. You’ll fly through a Bavarian village at speeds that reach 40 mph with two lift-hill drops on 2,500 feet of track. The ride is great for kids with a minimum height of 42 inches if accompanied by a supervising companion who is 48 inches tall.

Wrath of Rakshasa

WHERE: Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois

Six Flags Great America continues adding to its superb coaster lineup with Wrath of Rakshasa this season. This all-new attraction will debut as the world’s steepest and most inverted dive coaster. Like other dive coasters, you’ll ascend a lift hill before being suspended face-first over the initial drop for seconds that feel like an eternity. Though this drop isn’t like the rest, this is a world-first, record-breaking 96-degree descent that will have you experiencing thrilling G forces. You’ll barrel at upwards of 67 mph as you navigate all five inversions in the tightly wound track. The inversions include a zero-g roll, a unique “Demonic Knot” that combines a corkscrew and a heartline roll, and one final head-spinning 360° helix before you return to the station.

Beach Rescue Racer

WHERE: SeaWorld San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas

An excellent first roller coaster for the younger ones in the group, Beach Rescue Racer debuts in SeaWorld San Antonio with enough of a thrill to entertain all. The cute trains are fashioned as beech jeeps, and the mission here is to rescue animals in need. Climb the coaster’s hill, and you’ll crest it, diving through a course of some great twists, turns, and bunny hills. The coaster runs a compact 1,300 feet of track with speeds that reach a brisk 31 mph. Riders must be at least 38” tall to ride, and all guests under 48” must ride with a supervising companion at least 14 years old.

Palindrome

WHERE: COTALand in Austin, Texas

This is a big year for new theme parks in the U.S. as COTALand becomes the second major theme park to open in the U.S. this year, following Universal’s Epic Universe. COTALand is set to open in October 2025 in Austin’s Circuit of the Americas (COTA), a renowned destination for racing that is home to Formula 1, MotoGP, Germania, and more. The new amusement park will feature 30 rides that span its 30 acres, transforming the Austin destination into a family-fun retreat. Among its impressive lineup of rides, Palindrome is the highlight. The bright blue coaster is a unique shuttle design with a lift hill and a fun layout that includes a Zero-G stall over one of the park’s main public roads. The first half of the ride leads to a vertical hop-stall, as gravity takes you back down through the elements in reverse. With its unique layout and four inversions, Palindrome will attract a crowd.

9 OF 10

Fire Runner

WHERE: The Lost Island in Waterloo, Iowa

Fire Runner is Iowa’s first-ever single-rail coaster with an impressive, one-of-a-kind layout that will become The Lost Island’s signature attraction when it opens this summer. Single rail coasters accommodate only one guest per car, offering a unique feeling of serene soaring. The tracks on these models of coasters are smooth and always twisting, with plenty of dives and sharp curves. The snake-like train will reach speeds of 52 mph as it advances through three inversions on the 1,950-foot track. No two single rails are alike, and this one promises some excellent airtime and G-forces throughout its compact track layout.

The Flash: Vertical Velocity

WHERE: Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township, New Jersey

The Flash: Vertical Velocity finally makes its debut this season at Six Flags Great Adventure, one of the world’s largest theme parks. The super boomerang coaster operates as a shuttle, so only one train can run on the track. The ride reaches a top speed of 59 mph as it goes through a well-plotted course that includes a 180-degree twisted drop and a Zero-G roll, both forward and backward. The ride’s seven launches keep the intensity and speed up throughout, especially on the disorientingly fun return.
