Teresa Bergen

Teresa Bergen is a Portland, Oregon, USA-based travel writer focusing on outdoors, eco, vegan and sober travel. She’s on a campaign to normalize nondrinking. And she’s also trying to kayak or SUP in every US state and Canadian province. Teresa’s work has appeared in MSN, AAA, the South China Morning Post, Sierra, Spirituality and Health, USA Today and many other online and print publications. She favors peaceful outdoor activities, especially flatwater paddling, open water swimming, hiking and snowshoeing. She’s a newly certified scuba diver and is looking for more opportunities to explore the undersea world. Teresa is the author of Easy Portland Outdoors, a local travel guide designed to make the outdoors accessible to all skill levels. She also wrote Sober Travel Handbook and is co-author of Historic Cemeteries of Portland, Oregon. Teresa has a BA in journalism and an MFA in fiction writing and is a member of SATW, Transformational Travel Council and the Adventure Travel Trade Association. She's won several writing awards from the Western Chapter of SATW. Teresa is also a yoga teacher and certified personal trainer. She's lived in Portland for a long time. Before that, she lived in San Diego, New Orleans, Santa Cruz, San Francisco and Baton Rouge.
