Susan B. Barnes

Susan B. Barnes is a freelance travel and lifestyle journalist who calls Tampa home. With more than 20 years of professional editorial experience, Susan began freelancing in 2003, and joined the full-time freelance world in 2012. She has written for myriad outlets including AARP, AFAR, Allrecipes, Condé Nast Traveler, Garden & Gun, Global Traveler, Marriott Bonvoy, Southern Living, SUCCESS, Travel + Leisure and Vegetarian Times. Throughout her career, Susan has worked in non-profit with Global Forest Watch and Girl Scouts of West Central Florida, in public relations with a boutique agency, and broke into travel writing with AAA Going Places. She’s an active member of SATW and the American Society of Journalist and Authors, and co-author of FloridaBeyond.com. Travel comes naturally to Susan — an Army brat, she was born in Belgium and lived across the U.S. before moving to Orlando as a college graduate, and then Washington, D.C. before settling in Tampa more than 20 years ago. One part of her job that Susan enjoys most is meeting new people and experiencing different cultures, and learning their stories to share with others.
