Stephen Hockley

Stephen Hockley

Stephen is a Mauritian-British writer, and has been bopping around the world full-time since January 2022. He first became serious about professional travel writing after working with The Transformational Travel Council. He’s never turned back since then. His arrival at travel journalism wasn’t a straight path. At university he studied everything from quantum mechanics to Latin American politics, cinema to psychology, astronomy to literature. His career was similar, trying his hand as a barista, waiter, handyworker, receptionist, teacher, farmer, winemaker, marketer and finally, as a travel writer. All of these experiences have only fueled his fascination with how to live well, and he often covers travel as a window into the human condition. He enjoys writing about travel as a means of personal development, and as a way to become a more well rounded, satisfied person. He also writes about travel as a means to heal trauma, too. Finally, he covers identity, and writes about how people from diverse backgrounds move through the world. He’s always eager to talk about how travel can improve us. For now, he intends to keep exploring (and writing) continuously, and is steadily working on his first book.
