John Pearson

In addition to channeling his passion for travel into writing, John is currently senior writer for the newspaper titles of Stuff—New Zealand's biggest media organization—where he crafts features about arts and culture. He is currently based in Christchurch, close to the glaciers and fjords of New Zealand’s South Island. But previously John has forged a career in music radio at the BBC in London, been culture editor at The Reykjavík Grapevine in Iceland, and made his home on the tiny Indonesian island of Gili Trawangan where he worked as an underwater photographer. John studied at the London School of Journalism, passing its two-year postgraduate diploma program with distinction. His earliest publications were film reviews for London’s Footloose magazine in the late '90s, and he went on to write for various local papers in London, Icelandic publications The Reykjavík Grapevine and The Iceland Monitor, and Stuff in New Zealand. John has been travelling since the mid-'80s and writing about it since 2006. He has been a major contributor to Fodor’s Essential Iceland guidebook for several years now, and has regularly blogged about life in Reykjavík for a leading Icelandic tourism website.
