Charlotte Beauvoisin

Based in Uganda “the Pearl of Africa,” Charlotte Beauvoisin is a passionate advocate for conservation, environmental issues and community development through tourism. In 2009 Charlotte moved to Uganda as a Voluntary Service Overseas volunteer with the Uganda Conservation Foundation. After two years volunteering, she worked for a safari company. Charlotte launched her blog Diary of a Muzungu in 2008 and has twice been awarded Best Digital Media in Uganda’s Tourism Excellence Awards. Uganda is at the heart of everything she does but her portfolio now covers multiple African destinations including Kenya and Rwanda. She writes about adventure, birds, culture, wildlife encounters and life as an expat in a developing country. The popularity of her blog led Charlotte to specialize in digital marketing training. She teaches travel and hospitality businesses how to tell stories, communicate with potential visitors and promote themselves online. She has been working as a freelance travel writer and tourism consultant since 2011. Charlotte’s first degree is in politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. She is a Chartered Institute of Marketing Manager, a certified community-based tourism trainer and a member of Uganda’s Parliamentary Forum for Conservation and Sustainable Tourism. Charlotte is a contributor to the Bradt Uganda Guidebook and has written for The Daily Telegraph, Horizon Guides and Lonely Planet. Charlotte lives in a wooden house on the edge of Kibale National Park in western Uganda, a protected area that is famous for its chimpanzees, elephants and exotic birds such as the endangered African Grey Parrot and Africa’s largest butterfly! Her forest home has recently featured in "Amazing views from workplaces around the world" on the BBC web site. Originally from the UK, Charlotte has also lived in London, Paris, the French Alps, the West Bank and Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
