Alexandra Marvar

Alexandra Marvar is a freelance writer from Mansfield, Ohio, currently splitting her time between Savannah, Georgia and Westerly, Rhode Island, with regular expeditions to the New York Catskills and her previous home of 14 years, Brooklyn. She got her start in writing in 2008 as a permalancer at VanityFair.com. She's served as a regular contributor to VanityFair.com, GOOD magazine, and Cinespect, with recent bylines in The Guardian, The New York Times, The Nation, Topic, and others. She has lectured on photography and freelance writing at City College of New York, Savannah College of Art & Design, and her alma mater, Vassar College. Her travel writing and essays have been published by the Washington Post, CNN, Curbed, Stranger's Guide, Catapult and others. Her travel writing, photography, and attempts at filmmaking have taken her to 34 countries and counting. Her favorite falcon hospital is on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi and her favorite film festival is in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.
