The former whaling station town of Griviknak where legendary explorer Earnest Shackleton is buried in a small cemetery. We were able to land here but the cemetery was closed due to Avian flu.

This is a poor quality photo transferred from my good camera, where it is sharp, to my iPhone. But I wanted to show you the beautiful Macaroni penguin with their bright yellow and orange eyebrows anyway. There is a colony of them along the Bay, and it’s the only place we had a chance of seeing them on this trip. So happy!!! This is the 5th penguin species seen so far. It’s Joyce’s favorite.

So our ship provided boots get a thorough inspection before leaving the ship and a thorough cleaning upon return. Bio security is taken very seriously. That be Joyce. The natty rainproof and wind proof Helly Hensen jackets are are provided by Hurtigruten and are our souvenir.
