Not a lot to say about Redding, it was a quick stopover, but this sign for a now closed cafe really caught my eye. We are staying on N. Market St. which was once the main road before the highway was built.

As I said, the San Joaquin Valley was and is huge agriculture area, we passed at least 20 of these trucks, taking Roma tomatoes to be processed. Water is really a problem here.

When I was a 19 year old kid from Michigan I came to California to serve in the Air Navy. California, my dream. Only to be dropped into the largest agriculture area in the state. No Beach Boys, no beach, no blondes, no bikinis! Only the local Portuguese farmers...with some pretty daughters.

Farmers are having a tough time in what was once one of the largest "bread baskets" in the country. No water. We live in a state with a constant drought. These are dead trees.

Coming down the Grapevine. Most people think the Grapevine is from Santa Clarita down to the San Joaquin Valley but it's actually about a 7 mile stretch, from Ft. Tejon to the bottom. It used to be covered in "grapevines"

I-5, a desolute, flat humorless road, so straight that when you look into the horizon you can see the back of your own head.

Since the V & A doesn't have access to many famous statues, they just made their own out of plaster. They actually call it the Plaster Court.

This is the fig leaf that was applied to the plaster cast of the statue of David by Michelangelo. This was necessary because in Victorian times, the ladies had a hard time looking at David in the eye! Hey eyes up here! This is very funny, I mean Victoria had 9 children so at least someone knew what was behind the fig leaf

Cleopatra's Needle with Sphinx. This is an ancient Egyptian obelisk, given to the British people for kicking Napoleon in the pants...and out of Egypt. Having been to the British Museum, it looks like a lot of other stuff may have
"fallen of the truck" and landed in London

We tourists were delighted to see this sign, in earlier times it was probably not as popular, if you were going to lose your head for instance.

We were greeted by this guy when we crossed under the walkway to the Tower. There is a large part of the original Roman wall that is still preserved from when this was Londonium.

One guy who wasn't happy to see the Welcome to the London Tower sign, Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex. He was a favorite of Queen Elizabeth the 1st, until he wasn't. Last person to be beheaded in the Tower, February 25, 1601.
