Our Tropea landlady Ginevra's preferred taxi driver, Valerio, drove us south from Tropea to Scilla for 120 Euros. The route took us through Rosarno. This is the heartland of the powerful organized crime entity 'Ndrangheta. They control the area. An estimated 25% of the workforce is employed by them. Recently, brave West African clementine pickers rioted in protest of intolerable working conditions. The movie 'A Ciambra' deals with nearby Gioia Tauro's Romani residents plus its infamous prison.
