It was not yet beach season so took our aching bodies instead to the Spa. It had a small but attractive garden out front. The spa only had a few other visitors the day that we went. That made for a more relaxing time at an already relaxing venue. We both enjoyed a massage but our fave part was the indoor/outdoor pool. I can barely swim but the various water fountain contraptions were irresistible - we'd never been to such a modern spa before.

En route, Mrs Z and I passed by the stylish modern 'Monumenta ai Caduti in Mare' (sailors at sea). Eventually, we surfaced up at the unique Santuario di S. Francesco di S. Paula church. It had an ornately-carved door, a nearby series of religious wall murals plus a whole wack of fairy lights above its courtyard.

Beside this historic fountain, Mrs Z and I saw a unique sight. A local metal artist guy had created a series of cats in different poses. They were all done in rust and had a slogan attached to each of their display stands. A couple our age off to the side, were happy to see tourists interested in their local art this way. Maybe he was the artist?

Mrs Z and I were taken down from Tropea to Scilla by our landlady Ginevra's preferred taxi driver Valerio. The route went through Rosarno. This is the heartland of the organized crime outfit 'Ndrangheta. They remain in control. An estimated 25% of the population are said to be employed by that powerful entity. Brave West African clementine pickers recently rioted in Rosarno due to intolerable working conditions. An infamous prison exists in the next town Gioia Tauro (see the movie 'A Ciambra').
