This is a poor quality photo transferred from my good camera, where it is sharp, to my iPhone. But I wanted to show you the beautiful Macaroni penguin with their bright yellow and orange eyebrows anyway. There is a colony of them along the Bay, and it’s the only place we had a chance of seeing them on this trip. So happy!!! This is the 5th penguin species seen so far. It’s Joyce’s favorite.

The former whaling station town of Griviknak where legendary explorer Earnest Shackleton is buried in a small cemetery. We were able to land here but the cemetery was closed due to Avian flu.

Lutheran church built in 1914 for the Griviknak whale workers (400 during heyday of whaling operations) and extensively rehabbed in 1990s. Services very rarely held as the only inhabitants now are 4 British employees who assist with the tourism.
