White Christmas
My 6 year old was worried last week about not having snow for Christmas. She received her wish. We have had a heck of a winter storm, freezing rain, a foot of snow, more freezing rain and snow. About 13" in my yard since yesterday. They have declared a level 2 snow emergency here in Columbus, with counties north and south, level 3 (only emergency vehicles.) There are blizzard warnings posted for counties just north of Columbus. Power is out for about 200,000 people here in Columbus. Thankfully, our power is on. My back yard looks like a winter wonderland. I am stocked with plenty of food, wine, beer and bailey's. :-)
Anyone else having a White Christmas? |
WE are having rain today in VA. I am jealous. My brother lives in Cincinnati is enjoying your snow storm. I hope your power stays on!!! Have a baileys for me.
|
Truth be told Buckeyemom. Every year I fly to Ohio for christmas and every year, it snows, alot. Maybe not this much but enough to make it difficult.
Are things worse in Columbus than Cleveland? It looks like Hopkins is open and not to delayed. |
I think a White Christmas is one of those things that sounds better on paper (and in song) than in reality.
My brother is scheduled to arrive later today and flights into Newark are already delayed and the delays are building. |
Happy Holidays doc. Cleveland is worse than Columbus. They had Hopkins shut down while Port Columbus is still open. Hopkins was supposed to open up later this morning. Cleveland was under a level 3 snow emergency, not sure what the status is now.

Expletive.

A 30 percent chance of snow is predicted for San Antonio on Christmas Eve. Today, it is sunny, windy, and cold (27 when I awoke at 7A). There's always the hope so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! :-)
Merry Christmas! |
I had to run up to the grocery store to get a few last minute items and my car thermometer displayed 72 degrees and the humidity is awful. We're getting rain.
Hamburgers on the grill for dinner. Cold front is supposed to roll in this evening. buckeyemom, I hope your power holds out. Those storms looked horrible on the weather channel this morning. They did interview one mom with an infant and a toddler and she said she had planned so well, the delays didn't bother her one bit. Good for mom! |
Here in New Hampshire we have about 5" of snow from last week. However, today's big storm is being pushed north into Canada, bringing some warm (40's) weather and rain! Hope the rain stops before we loose all our snow! :-(
|
54 degrees and raining in central NJ. Supposed to get wintery over night. Next time it hits the 50's in NJ it will most likely be March or April. YUCK!
|
It's white, but it's not snow. Rained here in Memphis yesterday morning while the temps dropped like a rock. Then, in early afternoon, it sleeted like crazy and didn't stop until 9pm. Put about 2 inches of solid ice over everything and now it's holding below freezing. Supposed to drive to St. Louis tomorrow for Christmas. Very sloooowly, I think. |
We are in Northern MN and there is snow everywhere. It is beautiful. However, temps have been below 0 (like -25) and it is very windy so not fun to be outside. Supposed to warm to above 0 in a few days so can enjoy skiing and snowmobiling then. Merry Christmas All!!
|
Northwestern WI checking in - this morning we had -15 degrees with a -25 degree wind chill. Some snow so we'll have a white Christmas as well. Merry Christmas!
Pam |
The rain will be changing over to snow later this afternoon here in Buffalo. I cannot recall the last time we didn't have a white Xmas though. Usually it is a whiteout Xmas with zero visibility from the blowing snow.
|
Bright and clear in SoCal at 61 with 74 forecast.
Or, why I don't live in Iowa anymore :-B |
Officially 21 in Louisville and headed for 4 tonight. We had snow, then a lot of sleet, then snow; and very little traffic is moving. We have postponed tonight's dinner with our kids until the roads clear, and our clan gathering at my sister's in the country will be New Year's Day instead of Christmas. Bah, humbug!
|
Jersey, you never know here in NJ...two days ago it was 11 degrees, today almost 60! Two days from now the forecast is for 17 degrees.
Could be 70 in a couple weeks and snowing two days later! Ah the joys of the Garden State weather! |
Trish, you speak the truth! And its pouring now. I'm so glad my shopping is finished.
A wonderful holiday to you and yours. Martha |
Currently 68 & sunny here in Sonoma
County,CA. But the minute that sun goes down the thermometer does too-lows are in the 30's perfect for a fire in the PM. We'll see cold rain by Sunday, tho' Lived in Denver & Boston, loved snow as a skier-my love has turned to scuba these days, so I'll take St.John weather these days! 8-) R5 |
snowed yesterday in Dallas..everything was nice and pretty this morning with snow still on the ground.
All melted now - and supposed to be cold and sunny Christmas day and in the high 60's by Sunday - nothing like Texas weather :) |
Just got back from Walgreens and the thermometer on the car reads 72 degrees. The cold front hasn't quite made it to the coast yet.
|
Driving rain, wind, and balmy temps - quite a difference from earlier in the week with snow and temps below freezing. No white Christmas this year :(
|
Well, gosh, Ohio, we here in Ontario thank you for all that snow - NOT!! We got lots of snow all night, and the freezing rain started this morning. The nice part, though, was that at about 3:00 this afternoon the sun came out. That wasn't even predicted. The trees were all coated with ice, and they sparkled like diamonds. It was beautiful - unless you factor in the power blackout that happened late this morning because the wind blew down a few of the ice-coated branches.
Never mind - I got my shopping done despite the odds. The cats are dozing in front of the fireplace and I'm goofing off for the evening. :) |
Rain, wind and Rain near Albany NY and it suits me just fine. Rain is SO much easier to "shovel" than snow, and a lot less hectic to drive thru as we TRAVEL to family & friends.
I've no problem with rain on Christmas & looking out on the green lawn. Heck, GREEN is a Christmas season color too. |
Rub it in Go Travel about your 70+ degree weather today. Since I can't get to the gym, I have shoveled my christmas cookie calories off.
Meestare-It's Lake Erie's fault. I read somewhere that the Great Lakes have their own little micro-weather system or something like that. :-) I've been happily perusing the web today dreaming of spring vaction in the tropics... |
Southern Indiana is very white. Bah humbug to those who wished for a white Christmas - it's a real pain. We officially have about 2' of snow, but the wind has created drifts around my house 4' to 5'deep. Going to be below zero the next 2 mornings. We live in a rural area and have been snowed in all day. Thanks to our neighbors our road was finally opened this evening. Shoveling the drifts around our cars and from our front porch to the cars and to the barn where our horses are has been a huge job. On the plus side, the forecast says it will be around 40 by Monday.
|
Woke to rain this morning! A shock after so many sunny days. But it got sunny by afternoon and 76.
Wearing tee shirts again :) Tomorrow it will cool back into the 50s but no snow forecast :( |
Sorry buckeyemom. It was a miserable 72 and not a good one if it makes you feel any better. Everything was sweaty and sticky. Just a yucky humid night so we turned on the AC and of course it was only 50 something when we woke up freezing this morning.
|
No snow in Chicagoland. Bitterly cold and bright sun here. Our high today may be around 8 degrees. It's zero now. Sorry, Indiana- our lake effect dumped more than two feet of snow on you in the last two days- hope Santa is especially good to you- if your plans changed because of it.
|
Well, I'm still on flake patrol here in San Antonio. It's 32 degrees and 3 surrounding counties are under a snow advisory until 6P but so far where we are nada :-(
|
A foot of snow in Victoria, TX this Christmas morning! And it snowed in places like Houston, and Brownsville (first snow since 1895!). Snow has also been reported in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Wacky, weird, wild weather.
|
Nothing white but it is raining in Jax Fl. We will have high surf if anyone wants to do some Christmas surfing :)
|
Since we're in central Ohio I'm with Buckeyemom - our electricity was out for 12+ hours on Thursday, but thank G*d it came on late that night (and I also agree with her on the supplies - we hit Kroger before their generator gave out and stocked up on essentials, beer, wine...). We have 25,000 people still in the dark after waking up to -5 this morning. What a way to spend Christmas! I'm having just a taste of what Floridians encountered this summer with their hardships and wonder what we did to p**s Him off?........
|
ccolor-SIL and friend lost their power. I don't think we did anything to P*** Him off, it's just Mother Nature's unpredictability. We have been lucky in the weather dept. for a couple of years, we dodged tornadoes and other major storms. I guess we are due for a bad one. I lost power a couple of summers ago when we had a bad storm roll through, it was tough in the summer with 90+ degrees and no air, lost everything in my refrigerator. We were off for 4 days. But, it does not compare to losing power in the Winter. We have a generator now and plenty of fire wood, so if anything should happen we are prepared.
We'll have to have a Fodorite mini get together in Columbus soon. Maybe Snowrooster and cd can join us and anyone else who lives nearby. :-) Merry Christmas! |
The only thing white about my Christmas in Naples, Florida is my hair and the whipped cream on my eggnog.
|
We're getting light snow in Illinois. OK, so it's Christmas and a little snow is pretty. Would prefer it be gone when I wake up.
|
Another light sprinkling in Chicagoland overnight, Dec. 26 is whiter than the 25th. But it's really light, airy kind and just enough to make everything white without being hard to drive through. Christmas season is terrific this year, very traditional.
|
While DFW got a dusting last Wed. far South Texas had an enormous snow for Christmas.
M |
It was an incredibly white Christmas in Buffalo (as if that's a surprise). About a foot of it fell on Christmas Eve!
|
My sister called me internationally three times on Christmas Eve to update me on the snow at her house in Houston. A white Christmas in Houston! I couldn't believe it. First time in recorded history. It even accumulated on her car and in her yard.
I was also in awe to see the snow accumulation in the palm trees on Galveston island when watching The Weather Channel. Wonders never cease. |
