Which hotel chain has the most comfortable bed?

Is it still the Westin?

stumpworks73 Sep 25th, 2008 04:17 AM

Best ever in my 10,000 hotel nights was at a Ritz Carlton.

John Sep 25th, 2008 08:00 AM

Does this go with your "best pool in Florida" question??

SAnParis2 Sep 25th, 2008 08:13 AM

Are we including B & B's, resorts, home stays, motels or just hotels ? Major chains, franchises, family-onwed ?

nytraveler Sep 25th, 2008 08:15 AM

I've never found any of them really comfortable. In general, they are way too soft. I can only sleep well on a really hard mattress.

dmlove Sep 25th, 2008 08:18 AM

The Marriott Magnificent Mile in Chicago. In general, Marriott beds (and Westins) are super-comfortable, but this was beyond comfortable (or maybe I was just more tired!)

NYT - you should travel in Egypt, the beds tend to be rock hard in nice hotels.

seasweetie Sep 25th, 2008 09:12 AM

The Marriott - I've been known to cancel face-to-face meetings so I could stay in bed and teleconference.

nolefan1 Sep 25th, 2008 09:23 AM

The most comfortable hotel bed I've stayed in was at the "W" on Park Ave.

It was perfect!

halfapair Sep 25th, 2008 10:55 AM

We had a VERY comfortable bed at a Marriott near Disneyland. It was the Marriott at 700 West Convention Way.

trivbeck Sep 25th, 2008 11:00 AM

I've last couple times I've stayed at a Hilton, the beds were soooo comfy.

DebInTN Sep 25th, 2008 12:14 PM

I agree that Marriott consistently has better beds than most.

Betsy Sep 25th, 2008 12:14 PM

DH and I love the Hyatt bed. When we have to replace our current mattress and box springs, we may even buy one!

volcanogirl Sep 25th, 2008 12:33 PM

We love Marriott beds; just lying in that bed feels like a vacation to me! We've even ordered their pillows off their website. They sell all the linens, etc. online.

jennymary Sep 25th, 2008 12:47 PM

I don't know about hotel chains... but the two most comfortable hotel beds I ever stayed in were The Post Ranch in California and The Hay Adams in Washington, DC.

dmlove Sep 25th, 2008 01:00 PM

volcanogirl, we got the pillows, too!! Now I'm trying to find the blanket from the bed at the Renaissance Chancery Court in London -- I think I 'm going to have to call them!

Armani_Rugpilot Sep 25th, 2008 01:09 PM

Ahhhh, the good old days, revisited:

dm, I love those pillows. I felt a little wacky ordering them. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

toncasmo Sep 25th, 2008 03:31 PM

volcanogirl
THANKS SO MUCH for the info about the pillows. my husband did search and rescue after katrina and stayed at the renaissance in NO and has talked about the good pillows EVER SINCE. i think we've spent $500 on pillows that he thought was the same one but wasn't. i'm going to get him one for his 50th birthday!!
should make him happy and i won't have to hear about it anymore!

Mamaw Sep 25th, 2008 03:34 PM

Ritz Carlton Cancun. IMHO!

But I must admit way back when I stayed at a Westin and come home and bought all new bedding because of their heavenly beds. That was in Cancun too.

happyhiker Sep 25th, 2008 11:35 PM

Without a doubt, the Rydges Hotel Canberra, Australia.
I am a Qantas Flight Attendant, and every crew member I know, talks about how much they love Canberra overnights, purely because of how great the beds are. You can actually buy their beds from their web site, and I know a few people who have even bought them!

OO Sep 26th, 2008 09:37 AM

I ordered Hyatt's pillows too. We've got 4 on our bed--they are dreamy! You can get them from their website, or order from Pacific Coast Feather..."double down around".

dmlove Sep 26th, 2008 11:22 AM

Marriott's pillows come from Pacific Coast too. I don't know if they're the same as the Hyatt pillows.

OO Sep 26th, 2008 11:38 AM

It could be. They have a hotel line.

NeoPatrick Sep 26th, 2008 12:40 PM

OO, you're too honest. You ordered Hyatt pillows? You couldn't just "steal" some? :D

ncounty Sep 26th, 2008 02:36 PM

The best pillows ever were at the JW Marriott in Oahu. I even called and thought about buying them. I think they are from England and it was well over $100 per pillow! I decided against it. I think the bed was comfortable too.

We recently stayed at a Kimpton hotel in Seattle, The Vintage Park, and SO awoke in terrible back pain from the bed every morning.

Little_Man Sep 26th, 2008 03:23 PM

Even the lower end Marriotts beds are pretty comfy.
Ritz Carlton Pentagon City had a very comfy bed, as did the Signature Las Vegas.

OO Sep 26th, 2008 07:08 PM

"Borrow", Patrick, :), but no, I ordered them through Pacific Coast, for real. DH started his career as Controller, and it stuck!

trippinkpj Sep 26th, 2008 07:12 PM

Two Westin's I stayed at had very comfortable beds. I've never stayed at an RC.

sarge56 Sep 26th, 2008 07:47 PM

I find the Westin's very comfy. But have to agree- my last stay at a Hilton property (actually the Doubletree in Austin) was the most comfortable hotel bed I believe I've ever slept in. :)

Mollie Sep 26th, 2008 08:11 PM

Pacific Coast pillows are available at Costco. Around $40.

sightseer Sep 26th, 2008 08:30 PM

Another vote for Marriott. I'm staying at one right now on business and am so much more comfortable than the Hilton that I stayed in last week. The unfortunate part is that the fire alarm keeps going off in the middle of the night, so while the mattress is comfortable, I'm not getting a good night's sleep. Very frustrating at 4 am!

Cali Sep 26th, 2008 09:18 PM

We spent the past two weeks in hotels (Marriott, Westin and Ritz Carlton) and I have to say the Marriott and the Ritz Carlton were the best. I had expected the Westin to be better than it was.

ncounty Sep 27th, 2008 05:34 AM

Thanks for the pillow info, Mollie. I'll check it out. $40 is much better than $100+. My most recent pillow purchase was at brookstone; 2 pillows and a comforter for $100.

Here is my hint to those without big bucks but still want quality.

To find a good clean, comfy room with as nice bed that won't break the bank, we go with Hampton Inns while traveling through the US and Canada.

In over 60 stays, we have yet to find a problem with this chain as others have gone down the tubes (ie Best Western, Holiday Inn etc where the quality varies from Hotel to hotel).

With the Hamoton Inns and the Hampton Inns and Suites, we find that the level of comfort and the excellence of the housekeeping staff is really good. We really get a good night sleep (great beds) and that is so important while traveling for 3 or 4 days in a row.

I usually go to see any room before we sign in but with this chain, I don't anymore. We have always thought they were really clean.

Now, to give you an idea of how demanding we can be...We own our own Vacation rental business (24 motel rooms, 16 chalets and 6 suites) and we have very high standars when it comes to CLEAN. I have actually rented a room in our local (20 miles away) Hampton Inn and brought my staff there to see how it's done right.

Find you level of comfort and stick with it. You can also get points for being a frequen visitor. Until we have any problems with Hampton Inn, they will be the only Hotels we look for in our GPS.

OO Sep 27th, 2008 02:38 PM

Be careful with the pillows. Pacific Coast carries a huge line and they are not all created equally! (I did see them at Costco last week but was in a hurry and didn't look closely, so don't know which of the line they have.)

I returned the pillows I first got from Pacific Coast, as they were unacceptable...not what we'd had at the hotel at all, which were plump yet soft enough you didn't get a stiff neck from sleeping on them...your head sunk to a comfortable level. My first order produced anemic pillows, so I called them and talked it over with one of the salespeople. She was most helpful, telling me I should order the "double down around" pillow, so I returned the first and got those. Perfection. It is also what she uses and loves...probably a good recommendation as I'm sure she gets the chance to see and try the entire line.

ncounty Sep 27th, 2008 09:03 PM

Good to know, OO. Those details make all the difference.

vandel Mar 9th, 2009 10:43 AM

I think that Marriott has the beds best. They are made by a company called Jamison Bedding. I only go to Marriotts because they have Jamison mattresses! In fact, I have furnished all my bedrooms in my house with these Marriott beds by Jamison!

flapenny Mar 12th, 2009 01:32 PM

Toss up between Ritz Carlton and Marriott - maybe an edge to the Ritz.

ksucat Mar 12th, 2009 03:36 PM

Ritz, Fairmont, Marriott, Westin and the Wynn Las Vegas.

Hampton Inn and Suites had some decent bedding and linens when we stayed last year.. it was a new hotel.

sf7307 Mar 12th, 2009 04:11 PM

I just ordered a couple more pillows from Pacific Pillows (already have two of the "Marriott" version) - one Marriott version and one Ritz-Carlton version....can't go wrong.
