Apparently my 2 year old daughter feels this strongly about her "Strawberry Shortcake" Christmas CD. Not quite my idea of relaxing Christmas music, but it's cute to watch her sing and dance!
|
Bennnie, I so agree! I love it so much I'm having my choir sing it as the finale to our Christmas concert this year (I'm the director so they can't say no - but they love it too!) We'll have flashing palm trees and everyone will be wearing red leis. ((8))((h))((8)) Merry Christmas!

I did some Christmas shopping today and looked at the Christmas CDs. Saw TSO, lots of country, and bought THE classic Bing Crosby White Christmas CD. But there was this really weird one there - "Housewives on Prozac"...what is that about??
|
emd: I've heard it's very calming...hehe!

Couldn't agree with you more. Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth with Bing Crosby/David Bowie is the most meaningful song to me. I like when Gladys Knight sings "Peace on Earth" too. Surprising John Denver and The Muppets have some really enjoyable traditional and non-traditional Christmas songs. I was pleasantly surprised when I bought it a few years back. |
Another one or two just to chime in. When The Temptations sing "Silent Night." Also when Whitney Houston (she is the voice to me) sings "Do You Hear What I Hear". Wish there were a place where you could put together all the artists who sing certain Christmas songs very well.

Staphanie: My teenagers tell me that such a place is called "MP3"....(note that I used the generic name instead of the brand specific one that seems to corner the market)
|
emd, I believe the Housewives on Prozac cd is sung by the Monotones ;-)

OK, now I'm curious. The Kenny G Christmas CD was in a comic strip yesterday (Sunday). It was included as one of 4 items that you did not want to receive for Christmas. I've never listened to the CD but now I may just go to my local Borders and check it out.
|
When Kenny G first appeared on the scene, people couldn't get enough of him. I saw him live at an outdoor venue and was blown away. He is a great musician with phenomenal breath control and a heavenly sound. I think he has gotten overexposed. I don't like that we build people up and when they get really popular, tear them down again (i.e. Celine Dion, etc.)

Another vote for the Charlie Brown Christmas; and I just bought my husband an old Perry Como Christmas CD -- such a mellow voice.
|
Several people mentioned Vince Guaraldi. The CD I play every year is Cyrus Chestnut's Charlie Brown Christas, which is a very loving tribute to both Vince and the Charlie Brown gang. Plus it's great music.
|
travlsolo2, I just bought an old Perry Como Christmas album, also, and had forgotten how smooth and terrific he was. My sister mentioned that he was her favorite of all time, which is what inspired me. It's been about about week since I started this thread ... and in that week, I've listened the most to Celine, but the Diana Krall album is growing on me, Brian Wilson's makes me smile ... and I'm getting ready to put on Kings College Boys Choir ... so beautiful! Esteban is also great, and I forget about his music. Happy listening, all!

The concert Sunday night was amazing. The proceeds from the concert will go to the remodel of our local Metropolitan Museum. Kenny is obviously very good friends with the chairman head. (Golf buddies.)
We really enjoyed the concert. He is also a very warm, friendly person, loved it when he walked right out into the audience and played. Happy Holidays! ***kim*** ((f)) |
Heavens, I'm with you on Kenny G. & that is what the wife keeps playing over & over. But, sorry, Babs does not sit well with me either. They both give me headaches. Otherwise I listen to any & all other christmas albums. Chipmunks to Home Alone to the Cheiftains to Bing. The 1 I am listening to now, over & over is also called "December" but it is by the Moody Blues. That is followed by Bing, James Taylor, & Manheim Steamroller. Then if there is time, I sneak in a bit of the Nutcracker.

Possibly my favorite 'traditional' christmas recording is the version of the Sussex carol playd at the opening scene of the 1984 version of 'A Christmas Carol' with George C Scott. Does anyone know if this is available on a cd?
For non traditional, Big Maybelle's r&b tinged version of White Christmas is amazing. |
Glad you enjoyed the concert, Kim--that was a great gift idea you had! :-)

My vinyl copy is all worn out, but I just got the CD copy of the Rolling Stones "Beggers Banquet" and can't stop playing it.
I especially like "Sympathy for the Devil" Pleased to meet you Hope you guess my name, oh yeah Ah, what’s puzzling you Is the nature of my game. |
