Mariah Carey Christmas and NSYNC Christmas. Both are amazing. both are catchy and upbeat, they are really good xmas CDs.
|
Elendil--thanks for posting, I love choral music and will check out that cd. Also need to find a copy of the TSO everyone raves about :-)
Now about that Devo Christmas cd...are there poinsettias sticking out of the flower pots they wear on their heads?!? Those were flowers pots, right?!? "crack that whip!" :-D |
I love most Christmas music, from the Drifters doing White Christmas, to the Boston Pops doing Sleighride. If I had to choose one 'most listenable' I guess it would have to be the Vince Guraldi Charlie Brown Christmas. I can listen to that year round!
|
Ditto on George Winston's "December."
And re the Johnny Mathis Xmas CD--If "It's a Marshmallow World" isn't on yours, then you are missing a smiley classic. I also enjoy Andy Williams's Xmas album from 100 years ago, I think his "O Holy Night" is one of the best versions. |
TSO is on Good Morning America today.
|
Another vote for George Winston's December.
Heavens, I can't stand Kenny G either! |
This list is why I asked Santa for an Ipod (and a Longchamps black leather handbag but that's another thread).
Love the Irish Tenors Christmas cd - saw them in concert last winter and it was amazing. All time favorite "new" Christmas song is Boney M's Mary Boy Child. All the essential elements of Christianity in such an upbeat song. Makes you want to sing along and get up and dance. |
Another vote for TSO (saw them live here a couple of years ago, great show too) and while this is not an album, I got out of a cab in Chicago in front of the Watertower a couple of years ago just before Christmas and a street group was singing "Silver Bells" and it was snowing big flakes and the Dickenensian carriages were stopped there..it was dark..so all the lights were lit and it was like a Christmas card view, magical and when I hear that tune I think of that lovely late afternoon on Michigan Ave.
|
elaine, I'm going out these next few days sometime (regardless of snowstorms) to get a J. Mathis with "It's a Marshmellow World". Sounds a terrific addition. I have worn out one J.Mathis cd.
|
Ok gang, I went and purchased the last three copies of TSO at Sam's today...Walmart came up empty. Am listening to it now. I kind of like it, but prefer the traditional Christmas music.

It's probably a tie between the Dean Martin christmas CD and the Frank Sinatra christmas CD. But then again I also love Nat King Cole and the Charlie Brown Christmas.
|
Each time I browse this thread I keep singing over & over in my head: "Grandma got run over by a reindeer." ((a)) ((b))
|
OH NO BUDMAN! Now you've done it! I won't get that grandma out of my head for days.
|
Hey Budman!
....as for me and Grandpa, we believe:) Another vote for "December" - a favorite in our house. |
Adam Sandler's Happy Hannukah song. Yea, I know it's not a Christmas song but it is on a CD mix of Christmas songs we received. If you haven't heard it yet, it is hilarious.
|
Leontyne Price's Christmas album.....among other things, she sings THE most beautiful O Holy Night I've ever heard.
Some of the old Firestone Christmas Albums are showing up now on CD, and have a great variety of good Christmas tunes....not just the commercial & PC stuff we hear publicly today that drives me nuts after too much of it! |
Charlie Brown Christmas by the Vince Guaraldi Trio.
|
I got a nice belly laugh when I read Kenny G - please....awful, awful.
George Winston's December is fabulous. The classics of Christmas can't be beat. Bring on Bing, Dean and the boys anytime. |
My 8 year old granddaughter called me a couple of nights ago, and with great glee, sang "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer!" :-d So I reminded her that Grandma might STILL be shopping, and she might want to hush ... :p

Here's some lyrics I shamelessly "borrowed" from cyber space. Wish there was an album !
:)) <i>"We three Kings of Leicester Square, wearing ladies' underwear. How fantastic, no elastic, only tuppence a pair. We three Kings of Orient are, One in a taxi, one in a car, One on a scooter, tooting his tooter, smoking a wet cigar. Oohhhhh, star of wonder, star of might, star of dirty dynamite. It was loaded; it exploded. What a bang there was that night."</i> #-o Well, at least it isn't Kenny G ((N)) or gansta rap ! :)>- R5 |
