Which Christmas CD Can You Not Stop Playing ...

Do you have ONE .... of your Christmas CD's that you can't stop playing, even though you have a ZILLION other great ones??? For me, it's Celine Dion's "Celine: These Are Special Times." Love it as I TRAVEL around shopping (and love it in the house...) :-)

Little_Man Dec 13th, 2005 07:44 AM

ok, you got me...I'm so predictable...
It's James Taylor's Christmas album.
His duet with Natalie Cole is priceless!!!

No_name Dec 13th, 2005 07:44 AM

Anything from the Tran-siberian orchestra.

kimamom Dec 13th, 2005 07:56 AM

While dining at the Sardine Factory in Monterey for our anniversary last week, I gave my husband the new Kenny G CD and tickets to see him when he's in town! It's a great CD with Christmas Classics. Merry Christmas! ***kim*** ((l))

tovarich Dec 13th, 2005 07:57 AM

I love the Kenny G album.Paul

auntiemaria Dec 13th, 2005 08:12 AM

"A Merry Hawaiian Christmas" by the Hawai`i Calls Orchestra and Chorus.

It's an oldie (original vinyl was released in 1960s), but the 1974 CD is still my favorite -- because the carols are sung in the Hawaiian language.

LPOWMACBACK Dec 13th, 2005 08:19 AM

The Carpenter's CD & Home Alone!!

Statia Dec 13th, 2005 08:35 AM

For me I can't stop playing the following year after year:

-Harry Connick, Jr. "When My Heart Finds Christmas"

-Kenny G "Miracles"

For the opposite side of the coin in that question of "what Christmas CD do you want to stomp on," my selection would be Dolly Parton's Christmas CD.

It seems every islander here loves it and plays it to death this time of year. Someone please shoot me and put me out of my misery the next time I hear "I'll Be Home with Bells On" or "Hard Candy Christmas." :)

karens Dec 13th, 2005 08:48 AM

This is where iPods are great - I made a special playlist of all my favorite songs.

I like the Celine album, too.

LoriNY Dec 13th, 2005 08:53 AM

I'm with noname, TransSiberian Orchestra for me. Oh yeah, and A Charlie Brown Christmas!!

Fodorite018 Dec 13th, 2005 08:54 AM

Another TSO fan here, lol!

KE1TH Dec 13th, 2005 08:59 AM

Another vote for TSO.....

I went to their concert a few weeks ago. Amazing. Rolling fire balls. Snow falling from the ceiling. And the most amazing light show I've ever seen.

Oh, and the music is pretty awesome too.....

Corny but Bing Crosbys, White Christmas album with the Andrews sisters ( no, I am not that old lol)
A new guy we discovered here in Portland, Aaron Meyer, amazing violinist.
I like Classical Christmas music, and the music from The Snowman and Charlotte Church :)

sfamylou Dec 13th, 2005 09:09 AM

Waverly Consort Christmas!

matnikstym Dec 13th, 2005 09:13 AM

Wiliie K's christmas cd~best "O Holy Night" version ever
TSO
Anne Murray's Christmas cd

mikesmom Dec 13th, 2005 10:16 AM

My favorite Christmas CD is Vince Gill's "Let There Be Peace on Earth".

LOVE it!

emd Dec 13th, 2005 10:40 AM

Remember that duet of White Christmas that Bing and David Bowie did? I love that. Hearing David Bowie sing the "Peace on earth, goodwill toward men" part makes me cry!

MrTraveler Dec 13th, 2005 11:13 AM

For something upbeat, the Jackson 5!

JJ5 Dec 13th, 2005 11:19 AM

I have a best of that's terrific. It's mainly Bing, Nat King Cole, duets and other old, old timers.

I play the Celine with "These ARE Special Times" etc. too

But actually for some reason my favorite Christmas songs are primarily Nutcracker classical or Karen Carpenter.

The older I get the more I love Karen Carpenter at Christmas.

I like lots of the other choices as posted too.

AnnMarie_C Dec 13th, 2005 11:20 AM

One?! Just one?! Hmmmm..... then I would have to say Kenny G's Miracles.

samschack Dec 13th, 2005 12:33 PM

Nat King Cole's Christmas album.
Every song on it is great!

rb_travelerxATyahoo Dec 13th, 2005 12:39 PM

Bonniebroad - as you TRAVEL through the various Fodor message areas have you noticed the new area for MUSIC at
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=1867

and of course, there's always t.o.p.

Heavens Dec 13th, 2005 01:17 PM

OMG, really, no offense to anybody, but I can't stand Kenny G. It is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. But, to each his own.

Favorite - I do love the Carpenters. Also the Muppets with John Denver. Any album with Bing's Mele Kalikimaka, Nat King Cole's Christmas song. But the one I can listen to over and over again is any album by Manheim Steamroller. Love their sound...and use of classic intruements.

OK, ONE more? Barbara Streisand's Christmas album from the 70's. Also classic.

LisaN Dec 13th, 2005 01:18 PM

For me, the old favorite I grew up with (and wore the grooves out of, playing it over and over for weeks...):

"Merry Christmas" Johnny Mathis

The one with him on skis on the cover, circa early '60s, with these songs:

1. Winter Wonderland
2. The Christmas Song
3. Sleigh Ride
4. Blue Christmas
5. I'll Be Home For Christmas
6. White Christmas
7. O Holy Night
8. What Child Is This?
9. The First Noel
10. Silver Bells
11. It Came Upon The Midnight Clear
12. Silent Night, Holy Night

bonniebroad Dec 13th, 2005 01:25 PM

Bless your heart, rb_traveler! ;;) Merry Christmas, buddy! Would you like a good fudge recipe? :p

JJ5 Dec 13th, 2005 01:53 PM

I play Johnny Mathis all year long, but never the Christmas album. I'll have to buy that this year.

I love Johnny Mathis.

I also love "It's Cold Outside" with Ray Charles and duet with a female singer, who I'm sorry to say, I can't remember her name. Perfect Christmas week tune.

But baby, it's cold outside.

rncheryl Dec 13th, 2005 02:06 PM

I thought I was the only one alive who still listened to Johnny Mathis album. It just seems to fit my mood when I'm home. Also like the Irish Tenors new Christmas album.

HarmonyGrit Dec 13th, 2005 02:33 PM

One of the most beautiful voices of the '60's (IMHO) belonged to Gary Puckett. A few years ago, he put out a Christmas CD called "At Christmas." I've never been a big Christmas CD fan, but I was working in radio at the time and we got a bunch of these to give away. One listen and I was so bowled over, I discreetly kept a copy aside for myself. You can probably still order one for yourself if you'd like at www.garypuckettmusic.com

Heavens Dec 13th, 2005 03:36 PM

Have you all heard Il Divo? They are kind of like the tenors? four guys, Euro type, great voices. Just got it, haven't heard the CD yet.

Statia Dec 13th, 2005 03:49 PM

Heavens, I have to admit that when I saw your post at just a glance, I thought you were saying that "Devo" had a Christmas CD out. :D I immediately had thoughts in my head of "Christmas....it is good!" (It's an 80's thing).

I'll have to check out your "actual" recommendation, though. :) Thanks!

emd Dec 13th, 2005 04:37 PM

I stand counted as one who has the Johnny Mathis Christmas cassette (which I got at Hallmark store a few yrs ago). The man has a golden voice, like Nat King Cole.

emd Dec 13th, 2005 04:41 PM

What was I thinking. The Bing Crosby and David Bowie duet is of "Little Drummer Boy"!!! Of course, Bing did also sing White Christmas but that was not w/David Bowie on that Christams Special they did together.

BuffaloGirl Dec 13th, 2005 04:45 PM

Trans-Siberian orchestra. I listen to it over and over. It's so different from everything else.

Poppa96 Dec 13th, 2005 05:48 PM

Ramsey Lewis "The Sounds Of Christmas"
I have been enjoying it for years and the 1st one I listen to every year.

OldSouthernBelle Dec 13th, 2005 06:13 PM

I love all kinds of Christmas music, but my current fav CD that I own is Alan Jackson's 'Let It be Christmas'.

But the song I'll never get out of my head when I think of Christmas is Elvis' Blue Christmas. On our honeymoon night in Gatlinburg, it kept playing over and over all night long as the 1st new snow of the season was falling and us in our rustic B&B chalet with the roaring fire!

Way'll I'll have a bluuue Christmas without yoooouu!...(I never said I could sing!lol).

That will be 32 years ago day after tomorrow! (Thurs.)

George Winston's "December" and Jim Brickman's "The Gift"

crefloors Dec 13th, 2005 07:05 PM

Another vote for Johnny Mathis and of course Bing and the Andrews Sisters.."Jingle bells, juh juh juh jingle bells." Oh yea, they don't make 'em like that anymore. I like Andrea Bocelli Ave Marias when I feel like meditating or being serious..beautiful.

Betsy Dec 13th, 2005 07:48 PM

Don't shoot me, but I love the Mannheim Steamroller sound at Christmas. Lots of energy.

ElendilPickle Dec 13th, 2005 09:05 PM

>>I immediately had thoughts in my head of "Christmas....it is good!" (It's an 80's thing).<<

Oh, thanks a lot, Statia - now there's a corner of my mind trying to compose Christmas lyrics to the tune of "Whip It"! :-D

I have cassettes of several Christmas concerts I sang in when I was in college that I love to listen to at home.

I also love "Christmas" by the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

The Cambridge Singers' Christmas Album is in my van right now, and I just got a really nice version of Messiah by the English Concert which will be played quite a bit.

Sorry, I can't narrow it down to just one!
