Wherever you go, don't try to be clever with the ring. A friend had the ring put into the creme brulee by a restaurant. She swallowed it. True story!!!!

Now that you have us all wrapped up in this proposal - could you please post after she says "yes"? It will be a nice way to start the new year! By the way - Silverado Golf Resort in Napa is beautiful - I spent my honeymoon there.

A trip to Napa can drain your funds quickly. We stayed at the Wine Country Inn and it was very nice. During certain times you can get rooms for under $200. The area is pretty pricey. Hey Nancy! My husband proposed to me in St. Martin too. On the balcony of La Vie en Rose in Marigot. I'll never forget it. To Me: Napa sounds lovely.

To Susan, We ate there.........very romantic. He proposed to me on the balcony at Le Domaine where we were staying. St. Martin sometimes gets a bad rap these days, but it will forever be special in my heart as I am sure yours too, and I would go back there in a heartbeat!

To Me: I read on Fodors's that there is a restaurant in Napa Valley called French Laundry that is supposed to be one of the best restaurants in the country for food and romance. It's in Yountville,CA. Not sure if that's near where you are going, but if it is you may want to check it out! Enjoy!

We came upon a couple while we were walking the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. They were out biking and they "stopped to rest". He was on one knee and she was crying. It will be a wonderful memory for them and I will never forget it.

One other quick thought. There are two lovely restaurants in Sausalito (between Napa and SF). Once is Scomas and the other is the Spinnaker. Both romantic - from what I remembered!

Napa Valley is a great idea. Bermuda, The Reefs is a beautiful place or look up "Little Palm Island" in Florida. Very very romantic.<BR><BR>I was propsed to at the National Cathedral in Wash. DC in one of the little chapel rooms and noone was around. It was New Years Day. I'll never forget it. Our wedding day was also special. We decided to get married on a beach in St. John and honeymooned there. Wonderful memories of both occasions.<BR><BR>

Er, guys, you can stop now. The original poster, Me, is now posting on another thread that he's going to pop the question in Napa Valley and wants info on that area. So it looks like he already made up his mind. Too bad he couldn't take the time to come back to this thread and let everyone know.

Congratulations, "Me Again!" One WONDERFUL place in the wine country is S. Andersen, a maker of fine champagnes that have been served at the White House. They built a magnificent cave with cathedral ceilings to store their champagne, and when we were there in broad daylight, the cave was dark with dozens of lit candleabras and gorgeous fresh flowers. Very romantic! Perhaps you can talk them into emptying their cave (the word "cave" definitely does not do it justice) of visitors so you can propose or enjoy a congratulatory toast alone. My husband asked me while we were hiking in the middle of a river in one of the National Parks in Utah. It was BEAUTIFUL and springtime... <BR><BR>try to find a unique place - not in a restaurant - if you go to San Fran - go to the North shore of the bay and look back at the city lights at sunset - that is a beautiful and memorable view!

My husband proposed to me in front of a 40 Foot waterfall at a restaurant in Ocho Rios Jamacia called The Ruins. You drive through...(near) what seems a ghetto to get there, and once behind the wall...It is a beautiful restaurant with a stream running through it! We were seated near the waterfall...and there is a little platform you walk out to and your waiter takes your picture. We went out there, and "he" got on his knee and totally surprised me!!! He had the ring in his luggage for 4 days and I had no clue!!!!! It was beautiful. You'll have to re-post how you actually do it!!!! Good luck!!

Hi,<BR>Thanks once again to all the helpful posters out there. I appreciate all your advice, support and best wishes.<BR><BR>The plans are shaping up. As I posted yesterday, plane tickets are set. Today, I managed to book our lodging--we're staying in Yountville for 2 nts. The people at the Yountville Inn have been GREAT so far. No luck getting a reservation at French Laundry, but did get thru and explained my situation and they'll see what opens up...I considered booking us at a boutique hotel in SF but decided to use Marriott rewards and be practical. Has anyone been to the Renaissance Stamford Court?<BR><BR>All I have left is to reserve a car (using miles for that too) and decide which wineries to visit. How's Joseph Phelps? Has anyone gone there? Opus??<BR><BR>I'm going to copy this email and post it on the other thread that I started.
