Statia I'm flattered! It's not easy being part of the Friday night drink at home club.

I had to start with a stiff one. It's "clean the house before I go out for the rest of the weekend time."

Yuck. The only thing worse than cleaning a bathroom is paying someone else to do it and just knowing they won't do as good a job.

Sigh, it's not easy being anal retentive. :-)

Fodorite018 Nov 19th, 2004 04:43 PM

Jocelyn--We are in the same boat...first Thanksgiving in our new home, and family coming...although not as many as you have! Love chai lattes too...yum!!!

I can think of tons of places I would love to be right now...can't narrow it down to even one or two choices! One place would be in the mountains backpacking with my cocoa and schnapps. Not fancy by any means...but it sure hits the spot.

dcespedes Nov 19th, 2004 04:45 PM

Drinking Shiraz this evening...would rather be in a world free of panty lines, adult acne, white hair and husbands who miss dinner because of work, OR, the Utah mountains on ski holiday, whichever comes first :-) Lovely thread, Statia--cheers ((d))

Jocelyn_P Nov 19th, 2004 04:46 PM

...although if you ask me the same question after everyone's here I'm sure you'd get different answers to both your questions! lol

Hi dcespedes :)

Jocelyn_P Nov 19th, 2004 04:48 PM

Boy, that was badly worded and no wine involved...yikes!

dcespedes Nov 19th, 2004 04:54 PM

Hi honey! :-)

Scarlett Nov 19th, 2004 04:58 PM

Count one more spending the holidays in their new home. :)
I am going through house magazines, trying to find the right look for a warm weather Christmas..
Hi indy, hi mms~ cheers~ switched over to Port :D ((D))

Fodorite018 Nov 19th, 2004 05:04 PM

I think I need to open a bottle of something! I keep thinking about decorating the house the day aft er Thanksgiving...but I am stumped because what went in the old house does not go in this one. Considering how many boxes of decorations there are, there has to be a way to tastefully make do with what I have. Figuring if I drink heavily I will suddenly become creative:)

indytravel Nov 19th, 2004 05:06 PM

Hey Scarlett & Mimsy. Nice to hear from both of you.

Port sounds wonderful. Port always makes me think of Berlin. I swilled a lot of it at a ballet there in the late 90's. It was "art" and the men were up "en pointe" more than the women. "Der Daemon" or something like that. Port was the strongest drink they had to fortify myself.

If I'm not careful I'll plow through the Skyy Vodka tonight and end up drinking anti-freeze from the garage. :-)

Statia Nov 19th, 2004 05:08 PM

Joceylyn, I applaud you for having the family for the holidays in your new home. We are hoping to build our dream home in a couple more years and I'm looking forward to the same thing.

Indy, anal-retentive? We must be birds of a feather. I'm looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow because my housekeeper isn't coming in for her weekly routine, but I did have to clean the bathroom myself tonight (yes, those evening chores before the Merlot hits the lips). But, I have to admit, she does a better job than I.

dcespedes, I know what part of the country you are in and I love that area this time of year. I love Shriaz too, by the way.

Cheers, everyone!

BTW - After working nights all week, DH has decided to "call it a night." When he asked if I minded, I told him, "No, I have my Fodor Friends to party with, go on to bed sweetheart." :D

Scarlett Nov 19th, 2004 05:10 PM

LOL, indy, I had a dog a long time ago that drank anti-freeze, I don't recommend it (neither would he if he lived)
mms-maybe we should switch decorations. I have all these New England Christmas things and I am in the warmer South for Christmas..
Maybe I will post a Decorating for Christmas thread and really drive some people crazy LOL

indytravel Nov 19th, 2004 05:17 PM

Sorry about the anti-freeze and your dog Scarlett. It's supposed to have a sweet taste that dogs & cats can't resist. Dang I know better but pets just live for the moment.

If you start a decorating post, you'll have to make it travel related. Something like "what would you want to decorate with for Christmas if you traveled to a sub-tropical climate."

Is it possible to flock coconuts and give them that snowy feel?

cigalechanta Nov 19th, 2004 05:19 PM

My dear David, port is de riguer with the Wasps her in New england. We do serve it here because of J. but YOU KNOW we are mongrels, proud of it.

Fodorite018 Nov 19th, 2004 05:22 PM

Scarlett--definitely start a decorating thread!!! We usually have at least two trees in the house...one huge one around 14' tall and then another normal/small size one. The smaller tree is easy...I can't believe I am admitting to this in public...but its a tree that is entirely decorated with stuff from where we went to college...even the lights, lol! Yes, we are good alumni/fans! lol! Our other house had a really long mantel, about 15'...but this one has the basic size. The old house had darker wood trim everywhere...and this is all white and very bright...actually would look great in FL. Yup...need more to drink to figure this out, lol!

BTW, glad I am not the only one with no other exciting plans tonight:)

mikemo Nov 19th, 2004 05:24 PM

Geez Scarlett,
I always thought you very reasonable.
How could you possibly LOL at a dog drinking antifreeze and not surviving -a very bad way to die BTW.
I,and my adopted retired racing greyhounds, living and dead, and still supported financially are way appalled.
M

gracieb Nov 19th, 2004 05:26 PM

Scarlett,

How about something along the lines of...what is decorating your tree that you brought back from a trip...or something like that. Maybe making it travel related would keep the thread from being deleted!

And yes, there's a tacky red lobster on my Southern tree!

gracieb Nov 19th, 2004 05:30 PM

Forgot to answer the original question...

An Electric Lemondae delivered to me on the Jalousie beach in St. Lucia.

cigalechanta Nov 19th, 2004 05:35 PM

I don't live in a great area and some idiots dump their batterys, etc in the gutter and, as a result lost my beautiful cat who sipped on antifreeze. Since then, I have bought an extension for my hose to wet down and drain away as much as I can i the gutter.

indytravel Nov 19th, 2004 05:37 PM

Crack open a bottle of something Mikemo and lighten up.

Scarlett was laughing at me for making such a gauche statement. Not laughing at her dog's untimely demise.

That's the problem with the internet. One person's poor jest (mine) is another's tragedy.

Scarlett Nov 19th, 2004 06:58 PM

Thank you indy!
Mikemo, I like to think I am reasonable and I did love that dog very much. He was taken to the vet and we tried everything including having transfusions to clean his blood but nothing worked.
So I stand by what I said, I do not recommend drinking anti-freeze.
