What's your poison?

Statia's assistant here. Statia has evidently been detained. I hope Fodorites don't mind my starting this thread.

seetheworld Jul 7th, 2006 05:02 PM

Poland Spring water. :(

BUT, the DH is bringing home some baked ziti and a salad from the local Italian restaurant. I'm starving -- I forgot to eat today...been too busy obsessing over what to pack. :D

kopp Jul 7th, 2006 05:04 PM

starrsville - well, if you're gonna do it, at least do it right. Statia always asks a probing question for us to ponder while we imbibe! ((D))

So what do you want to know?

starrsville Jul 7th, 2006 05:06 PM

I want to know where the h@%& Statis is!!!

Statia, please post here and ask your question! If you don't, I'll have to come up with something - and I'm sure it won't be good.

Fodorite018 Jul 7th, 2006 05:06 PM

So far just water...boring, I know.

We had friends fly in last weekend and spend a few days here, then we all went to the coast together. We just got home today and now I am frantically getting DS's stuff washed so he can pack as he flies to CA early tomorrow. After he has landed safely, THEN I will have some poison:)

Statia Jul 7th, 2006 05:08 PM

I am so glad that my assistant, starsville, stepped in to start the thread tonight. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been started....really. :) Thanks, stars. :)

Just celebrated DH's (ReasonStatiasSoHappy on Fodors) birthday last night and we have our wedding anniversary this weekend, so it's a weekend of celebrations, but also work. He's on call 24/7 and I've been swamped at work, as well.

I'm enjoying a Pinot Grigio on my patio at the moment and relishing the thought of my intimate dinner with RSSH (DH) tomorrow night. That is...as long as "the girlfriend" doesn't get in the way. For those of you who have your minds in the gutter you'll have to read last week's Poison thread to get it. :D

So, I'll be "traveling" up The Quill (the volcano) for an intimate dinner tomorrow night. Where is everyone else traveling this weekend? Or thereafter?

FainaAgain Jul 7th, 2006 05:10 PM

With a forced on me split personality I'll need lots of poison today. Not only red Australian, I think I'll imbibe from my hubby's rum bottle. Just like that :))

starrsville Jul 7th, 2006 05:10 PM

Okay, it's lame but it just came from a TV show - so blame the lame TV show.

What would you choose to be really pampered? It could be spa-related or not.

seetheworld Jul 7th, 2006 05:12 PM

Too many questions. I confuse easily, LOL!

starrsville Jul 7th, 2006 05:13 PM

Disregard my ramblings. The "real" Statia is here! Yahoo!

Poison = kybourbon's PAMA mixed with Ginger Ale. If I had champagne in the house it would be a Kir Pama.

Traveling this weekend? Back to the mountains and a spin on the lake. On to the coast on Monday.

starrsville Jul 7th, 2006 05:15 PM

FAINA??? FainaAgain?

FainaAgain is back...again! Yippee Yahoo!

Boy, that was a short banning! Thank you editors. We missed our Faina!

Statia Jul 7th, 2006 05:15 PM

Ah..c'mon, STW...you don't confuse that easily. ;)

Better question than mine Stars. :)

I would do what I do each time I get to the US twice a year. Collagen facial, full body massage, manicure and spa pedicure. Those are the basics and if I have more moolah left I shall indulge more. :D That could be food/wine related or spa related. :)

Brookside Jul 7th, 2006 05:16 PM

I'm feeling Continental tonight -- started with an icey cold Chimay (French), followed by a yummy angel hair pasta w/ a caper lemon sauce from our fav Italian restaurant.

Sipping a little Gewürztraminer now whilst scrolling these forums and catching up on the latest board dramas (Faina banned? What the h* is going on?)

Hey -- it's cheaper than a trip to Europe! :)

emd Jul 7th, 2006 05:17 PM

Oh gosh, now we have to decide on a philopophical question and do a great intro leading up to the question like Statia does, and then moderate the thread like she does? No wonder she takes a break once in awhile. But she does do an excellent job of it and I must say I REALLY APPRECIATE it. esp. now that we have to think about doing it tonight.

Oh, and it's something Italian and red from Trader Joes. Although it should be Guiness after all I went through with that passportless Ireland-bound husband of mine this week.

We must come up with a question.

I know. I have one.

After going through my husband's passport ordeal this week, wherein he decided not to expedite his passport for his trip to Ireland and left his son and everyone else angsting over whether he'd get an uber-expedited passport at the last minute, I feel qualified to ask this question:

What is the one place that you really DON'T have any desire to travel to?

Right now, mine is Ireland. I have some kind of block on the place, I guess because my husband is going and I am just burned out and don't want to travel all the way there on a car trip for one short week. So it isn't really that I don't want to go to Ireland generally, but I am really not wanting to go on this trip to Ireland.

Gee, I am not as eloquent as Statia. I miss her!

emd Jul 7th, 2006 05:18 PM

and haha, the joke is on me, because while I was composing my question, she arrived!

HELLLLLOOO Statia!

seetheworld Jul 7th, 2006 05:20 PM

Man, aren't we just a screwy bunch this evening! :))

emd Jul 7th, 2006 05:20 PM

so now we have THRE questions going:

What would you do to be really pampered?

Where are you traveling this weekend or thereafter?

Where do you NOT want to travel?

sparkerlaw Jul 7th, 2006 05:21 PM

Because I don't want to think about passports anymore tonight I have just made some excellent Mojitos..with 151 proof Puerto Rican rum. Maybe that'll make me and my DH feel better. Added some good South Florida sour dough bread (of course, not half as good as San Fran.), with some butter and aged Brie. It's working!!!

seetheworld Jul 7th, 2006 05:21 PM

Is this a test, emd?? ;)

starrsville Jul 7th, 2006 05:23 PM

Now, I am confused.
She's here, emd. She's posted on this thread.

So, the answers are:

Q1 - Traveling to the mountains tomorrow.

Q2 - Grove Park Inn, room service, full day of spa treatments and swim and relax in the grotto pool. Rock and sip my Friday poison in front of the massive fire - if it's winter.

Q3 - Singapore. I know folks love it, but...
and I adored Ireland. Give it a chance down the road, emd.

Time for another Pama and ginger ale.

kopp Jul 7th, 2006 05:25 PM

Okay. Okay. I'm sorry I asked for a question. Never mind!

Welcome back Miss FainaAgain! We sure missed you today. Hope all is well with you.

Hello Statia. Congratulations on all your celebrations! ((L))

Cranberry-Raspberry juice, straight up! Cures what ails you.

Statia Jul 7th, 2006 05:26 PM

emd, I was following your DH's passport dilemma and it made me think of a few of my own. I'm SO glad he got his worked out. Hurray! :)

But, it made me ponder...I have a US and EU passport. I have to turn in my EU passport for renewal soon and that is fine because I can still travel on my US. However, WHAT IF when I have to turn in my US to renew and have an emergency travel situation to the US? I can't enter the US on my EU passport at that time, if such a time comes up. I used to be able to go in with my birth certificate, but that will be null and void soon, so....hmmmmm.

Any thoughts?

As for emd's question....I have lived on a very tiny island in the West Indies for 13 years. There is pretty much nowhere in the world that I would't go...as long as it's not an out and out war zone. I'm pretty much game for anything as long as I'm not in imenent danger.

seetheworld Jul 7th, 2006 05:27 PM

Question #1: I feel absolutely pampered when I'm sitting in my outdoor jacuzzi all by my lonesome. Just me and the birds.

Question #2: Tuesday leaving for London/Cambridge/Portugal/Cambridge with my DH.

Question #3: I have no desire to any place that takes more than 8 hours in a plane. :D

Statia Jul 7th, 2006 05:30 PM

STW - have a wonderful trip!!! :D

emd Jul 7th, 2006 05:33 PM

Oh, and on Question #3, I do not want to go to Bangkok. As much as everyone on the Asia board raves about it, it sounds too hot and crowded and too much sensory overload for me.

Question #2, for pampering, I did the most wonderful trip to Cabo San Lucas in early June w/a close friend. We rented a small villa right on the beach and had a cook come in to cook breakfasts and dinners each of the 4 days, and had house calls from a very good local spa for massages, pedi/manis, facials, and another massage. And btween those we read, swam in the private pool, had drinks on the rooftop palapa bar while watching sunset, walked on the beach, birdwatched from the verandas, and never left the place.

Question #1: I am going nowhere this weekend, but am going to NYC w/my daughter for 4 days (lots of theater)and then to Ocean City MD right after that for a week of vacation at end of August.

seetheworld Jul 7th, 2006 05:37 PM

Thanks Statia!

Have a great time with your daughter, emd!

nevermind Jul 7th, 2006 05:37 PM

seetheworld & mms -- now I don't feel so badly, I've got a bottle of Arrowhead spring water next to me. I'm hoping DH will bring me a glass of wine when he gets home from his golfing. [-o< Since I'm still on crutches and wearing a huge leg brace, I am really pathetic in the helping myself to beverages department. My lurching gait tends to spill anything I can carry in my pockets.

Hmm... Pampering... I really wish I could always have a spotless house and not need to clean it myself. I also love massages. Pretty boring aspirations.

I have never had a desire to visit Viet Nam, although I know people who have been there and loved it; and I really don't want to go back to Barbados. Other than that, I've pretty much enjoyed every place I've been and want to visit just about everywhere. I hope to visit all 7 continents in my lifetime.

Statia, my DH and I celebrate our anniversary this weekend, too. 38 years, but I think it feels longer to him right now, since he's been my caretaker for the past month or so. Bless his heart. @-) ((L)) He's being so patient.

Cheers to all... ((D))

P_M Jul 7th, 2006 06:01 PM

Poison--Pinot Grigio

1. I don't live in a fancy home, yet somehow I feel very pampered here. My little dog helps. :-)

2. Going to Portland, OR in 3 weeks, then to Hawaii in late Sept. It's my first trip to HI since 1985 and DH's first trip to HI ever. Aloha, y'all!! :-)

3. There are very few places in this world I would rule out ever visiting. But I will never visit one of those countries where women must wear veils and are treated like second class citizens.

crefloors Jul 7th, 2006 06:03 PM

Ice water to drink. Too hot for alcohol. For pampering I'd go up to Calistoga and do the whole spa, mud bath thing...the woiks!!! Not traveling this weekend, but soon. I think India. I know, like other places, people that have been love it, but even though it is fascinating in many ways, there are just a lot of things in the culture that just leave me cold. Having said that, I'm up for just about anything and anywhere as long as its not someplace totally stupid..Darfor or Somolia anyone?

starrsville Jul 7th, 2006 06:03 PM

What kind of little dog P M?

seetheworld Jul 7th, 2006 06:05 PM

WOW P_M! Have a fantastic trip(s)!! :D

matnikstym Jul 7th, 2006 06:10 PM

smalti Jul 7th, 2006 06:19 PM

My poison: a Louis Jadot Pouilly-Fuissé--time to cut myself off.

seetheworld--Have a great trip! Back to your first post--I don't think I've ever forgotton to eat in my life!

starrsville Jul 7th, 2006 06:20 PM

Oh, smalti, pour a glass for me, would you please?

CAPH52 Jul 7th, 2006 06:24 PM

I was gonna comment on that too, smalti. I think I could more easily forget to breath than forget to eat! :D

P_M Jul 7th, 2006 06:26 PM

stw, thanks for your nice bon voyages!! And a major BV to you as well. I'm so excited for you. ((Y))

P_M Jul 7th, 2006 06:28 PM

matnikstym, I just saw your post. You are a very naughty boy. [-X

JAGIRL Jul 7th, 2006 06:30 PM

Q3 : Anywhere in the Middle East. I know folks have gone and have loved it. But with my fortune I'd probably be kidnapped or bombed... :S
