I love all kinds of music - for driving thru beautiful countryside, maybe some Vivaldi, or bluegrass, depending on my mood. For driving in an urban environment, give me some good old doo-wop, which really captures the urban feel without the nastiness of rap. For late night cruisin the interstates, some smokey Miles Davis,BB King, or any soulful jazz or blues.

You're gonna think this is weird, but...I was thinking this week that I ought to buy JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR for the rides in my car. There are some AWESOME songs on that....anyone else like it? :)

In the car's cd player right now is the very best of Elvis Costello. Wide variety of music, punk classics to "She" (from Notting Hill movie). However, tend to get the punk songs in bad traffic situations and the ballads on interstate.

RnR, Doug Clark died a couple of weeks ago. I would mention some of the "Hot Nuts" classics, but the post would get deleted.

My new favorite driving music is Mississippi Cactus, the Frank & Irene CD. What I'd call a great fusion of funk, rock, blues, jazz, etc. They're local (Milwaukee) but I think they've got potential to make it big someday. I hope so. I'd love to hear a lot more from them.

http://www.mississippicactus.com/

Love to listen to Jimmy Buffet Old Stuff when headed down to Florida. Mothers Finest "Another Mother Further" will keep you awake and you can sing at the top of your lungs. Kid Rock is a new one that I drive to. Anything Pink Floyd recorded to relax to. And finally Puddle of Mud's new album is a good one. Try Kazaa.com and download all the above posts and make yourself a bunch of C/D's to pop in while you drive. Have a great trip.

Don

This suggestion DOESN'T date me. We just took a CA driving vacation and our favorite CD was Frank Sinatra from his earlier years. It just seemed to fit the winding turns and the fabulous scenery. Don't get me wrong, we had our fill of the Doors, Beatles and Stones , but even our 2 teens enjoyed hearing Frank the most! Have fun!

My new favorite music for the car is a CD from the Kukkoo Kunuku Party bus in Aruba. It is full of great sing along rowdy party songs. Gotta love it!!!

If I'm going to be driving while the rest of my family is snoozing, I'll usually pick something that will keep me awake. I never, ever listen to country music normally. Since that genre of music usually tells a story, and I am unfamiliar with it, I'll pick a country music station to keep me awake.
