What's your favorite driving music?

Going on a 2 day road trip and need some new tunes to keep on trucking. Any suggestions?

This will date me but..The Doors, very loud, especially L.A. Woman. The Stones are a close second.

If you're anywhere near the beach, it has to be the Beach Boys.

The Cars. Especially their song "Drive".

Why not try a book on tape (or on CD)? We discovered them a few trips ago and now we always bring one along. John Grisham has some good stories as does David Baldacci.

Alabama, Aerosmith, Supertramp - Long Way Home, Lynyrd Skynyrd

I like the books on tape idea. I listened to on the way to Florida last fall and it helped a great deal. I find that mysteries tend to keep my attention better than other choices.

As for tunes, I enjoy big band music (Glenn Miller) and Steely Dan when I'm on the road. I don't know why. An odd combination but it works for me!

The Eagles

Has to be the sound track to "Oh Brother Where Art Thou". I could listen to "Man of Constant Sorrow" over and over. Actually, there are 4 versions on the tape. Excellent CD, and worthy of the Grammy, IMHO.

Anything by Paul Oakenfold or Crystal Method.

any "golden oldies" station

What do you listen to now, Warrior? Some new CD's I like are the Strokes; debut; Weezer (about a year old now); the soundtrack to the Sopranos second season (ditto).
Classic driving music, to me, includes anything from Tom Petty, Steely Dan, Bob Marley, Earth, Wind & Fire, Talking Heads, Pretenders.

Anything B-R-U-C-E!!!!!!!!!!

I really do enjoy listening to audio books while out on the open road. But when I need a change of pace, I love popping on my Steve Miller Band cd to get me going. I also enjoy my Elton John's greatest hits cds for driving.

Broadway musicals. They provide a good variety and are very interesting. I'd recommend Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Jeykle & Hyde ...

Cynthia Apr 16th, 2002 09:02 AM

Pat Metheny (Group), Keiko Matsui, Bobby Lyle, Monty Alexander

GINNY Apr 16th, 2002 09:08 AM

Thelma and Louise!

tom Apr 16th, 2002 09:16 AM

wow. Steve Miller Band, Supertramp, the Eagles - looks like some of you are locked in a 70s time warp! :)

for music that was originally recorded on a CD - try U2's newest album (can't remember the name), Dido, and Dave Matthews Band.

Well, perhaps something cool, some blues in the night, to ease your mood and smoothe out any latent road rage ... some Brubeck with Desmond, or 'Train, or Errol Garner.

Hugh Apr 16th, 2002 10:25 AM

I'm impressed by much of these suggestions. I'll weigh in with:

Steely Dan
Bob Marley
Pat Metheny
Dave Brubeck
Dave Mathews
The Velvet Underground, and
Elton John
