Bruce Springsteen, Live 1975-1985
Rolling Stones, Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out
Carlos Santana, Lotus (in Japan)

All three are live recordings at what I consider the height of these artists musical careers.

ncgrrl Apr 16th, 2002 12:53 PM

Forgot about a road trip with a theme. Went to Nashville a few years back and all we listend to was country. Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Junior Brown, Asleep at the Wheel (and guests) performing Bob Wills tunes. Ahh, take it away Leon.

RnR, Jackie Wilson, all time classic. Now have "lonely teardrops" in my head.

"Radar Love" by Golden Earring?
Spent many an hour behind a windshield driving between San Diego and No Cal on I-5/Hwy 99 when that song was popular.

Right now I've been into BB King, SR Vaughn, J Geils, Van Morrison, Guess Who/Burton Cummings as traveling music.

Bob Wills' Asleep at the Wheel Tribute album.
Now, LA Woman AND Lonely Teardrops are stuck in my head!

They are doing a "60's" Tribute on local radio as I type. Procol Harum!!!!
ARRRGGGHHHHHHH.

nina Apr 16th, 2002 01:11 PM

I love Procol Harum, Kal! I should have been born a bit earlier, I still think Rock hit it's peek in the late 60's, early 70's and with the exception of U2, no later artists have come close.

The Who - Going Mobile
"I'm going home, and when I want to go home I'm going mobile. Keep me moving."

Indigo Girls - Get Out the Map
"Get out the map and lay your finger anywhere down. We'll leave the figuring to those we pass on our way out of town."
Bruce - Thunder Road
"All the redemption I can offer, girl, is beneath this dirty hood. With a chance to make it good somehow, what else can we do now? Except roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair. The night's busting open, these two lanes will take us anywhere."

Anything by REM. Anything by U2 (and Tom the new album is "All That You Can't Leave Behind," a good title when you're packing!). Had a great road trip recently listening to their "Achtung Baby."
Agree w/ Brubeck and Desmond.

Had to add Joe Sample, esp. his 'Carmel' for travelling the CA coast. ('Carmel', 'A Rainy Day in Monterey')

But...what is probably the ultimate driving music for anywhere in the U.S.: Neil Diamond's 'Coming to America'
"..TODAY!!!.."

Whatever your tastes, though, please be sure to listen to whatever is most likely to keep you awake and alert and avoid anything that you suspect may have the opposite effect!!!

Cynthia Apr 16th, 2002 05:01 PM

Had to add: for New Orleans:

'Basin Street Blues', esp. by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong:

"Basin St....New Orleans, land of dreams..."

And of course, the cliched 'Chicago' , 'NY, NY', 'Route 66'
