I am from Atlanta where there are some decent cultural restaurants...now I live at the beach where there are no restaurants other than steak and seafood. I love seafood but I really miss Thai food. I love spring rolls and spicy pad thai and matsaman curry. Also DREAM about that white monterrey cheese dip at the Mexican rests, not that fake velvetta stuff.

Living overseas has opened up a world of culinary delights but I do miss many things back in the good ol' US of A. The first stop when I get home is Red Lobster restaurant (that buttery/lemony sauce on the Shrimp Scampi-mmmmm and those cheddar garlic biscuits). Used to crave ice tea (yes I realize it ain't food per se) syrupy sweet (can never make it sweet enough at home!)but now most of our American style restaurants have them (Applebee's and Friday's). Always love a good steak too and enjoy making homemade ribs on the grill when I get home, too. They finally have Lays sour cream and onion potato chips here but they are about $8 a bag! Don't crave those anymore thank goodness!

I dream about the food that I used to get from this really plain looking restaurant while I lived in Greece. The cook(can't remember his name)would stand over the grill tending to your food while he smoked these really horrible smelling cigarettes. There would be cats running all over the place. Maybe it was the ashes that fell into our meat that always made it taste so good. On another note, I miss Lay's Limon potato chips that I seem to only be able to find when I go to Las Vegas. The grocers in my area all say that they can't order them. Next time in LV, I will buy a box of them.

Sue-

Our news station's website lists recipe's from restaurants. One of the ones on their website is the red lobster biscuits. I've made them and they were pretty good.

Red Lobster's Cheese-Garlic Biscuits
(Yield: 12 biscuits)

Perhaps one of America's most requested recipes, Red Lobster's Cheese-Garlic Biscuits are a tasty accompaniment to any meal. Familiar to guests of the seafood restaurant, these popular biscuits are easy to prepare using this recipe adapted for the chef at home.

2 cups Bisquick prepared baking mix
2/3 cup milk
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup butter or margarine, melted
¼ tsp. garlic powder

Heat oven to 450º F. Mix baking mix, milk and cheese until a soft dough forms. Beat vigorously for 30 seconds. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased cooking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Mix melted butter and garlic powder. Brush mixture over warm biscuits before removing from cooking sheet. Serve biscuits warm.

I can think of at least one thing from everywhere I have been that I loved and miss...Nutella on my toast(in Tahiti)...Kabobs near Picadilly Square...Fresh Salsa in Playa Del Carmen...to name a few.

Oysters on the half shell from any dive in LA or AL.

Muffuletta from Central Grocery. Yum. Barbequed shrimp from Mosca's. Hot (spicy, not temp) boiled crawfish with new potatoes and corn. Both kids were born in New Orleans and it's a wonder they wren't born with little claws, because crawfish was the only food that was at all appealing the first few months I was pregnant.

Corn and crawfish soup from Deja Vue in New Orleans.

Fresh Ice Cream from the roadside stands in summertime New England.

Especially Oreo from Benson's in West Boxford Ma, Cookie Dough from North Street Dairy Cone in Waterville, Maine - and Coconut from Four Seas in Hyannis Mass.

Maryland blue crabs with a pitcher of ice cold beer. Throw some fresh picked sweet corn in and you have yourself a perfect summer afternoon!
Unfortunately that is six months away but I can still dream.

Lenleigh, you can get Nutella everywhere in New York City, did you know that? Don't know where you live, but if you visit NYC any time you'll be able to load up on it. MMMmmmmmmm Nutella...on toast, on fruit, on anything. I share your passion for it. ;-)
