What food do you dream about?
Just for $hits and giggles, what food do you dream about that you can or cannot get at home?<BR><BR>I dream about corned beef in New York from the Second Avenue Deli.
Gelatto from Italy.. I can still remember the fresh, natural creamy taste of the Strawberry gelato I had in Rome in 1974!!!! Also any food I ate in Paris was tres magnifque!!!
I'm with Collette, my mouth waters every time I think about the pain au chocolat I ate for breakfast in Paris. Hate to admit how many of them I scarfed.<BR><BR>At home I dream about stuff like mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, fettucini alfredo etc. because I love them, but they're so fattening I can't ever eat them except once in a blue moon.
It's only about a 1 hour ride for me (and I am thankful for that) but I love the ribs at Cubby's on River Street in Hackensack, New Jersey. I order it with a baked sweet potato that is huge! No room for anything else after that.
<BR>Giordano's pizza, Chicago<BR><BR>Fresh salmon from the Pacific Northwest<BR><BR>Whitey's ice cream, Quad Cities-IL<BR><BR>Agree about gelato from Italy...why can't it taste the same when made in the USA?<BR><BR><BR>
Barry, good question... I agree that no matter how upscale the place, the gelato here is just not the same fantastic taste of Italy. I saw Tyler Florence on Food TV this week in Italy and he mentioned that gelatto is made with milk... maybe it's what they feed the cows or maybe their fruit is fresher and more organically grown. Wanna order some to be Fed Ex'd to the crowd?

I dream of tuna taco
Kielbasa!
we're living overseas. Gourmet food is abundant but I get periodic cravings for Cheez-its and Reese's peanut butter cups. Also Dungeness and soft shell crab. Oh, and Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts. And baby back ribs with real barbecue sauce. Mmmm...I'm gaining weight just thinking about it!
Italian gelato, Portuguese coffee, and REAL Greek salad - mmmm!
Fresh bolied Maine lobster and deep fried tender Maine scallops. Yum!!!!
What is REAL greek salad? I had a greek salad in Tarpon Springs, Florida and there was a scoop of potato salad in the middle. First time I saw that. Is that really how is SHOULD be served?
I'm just back from a trip to New York and can't stop dreaming about the steak I had at Peter Luger's (plus the cheesecake and schlag for dessert!).
Just plain old bread and cheese and maybe coffee but in Paris!<BR>I live in an area where I can really have anything I have a taste for, which can really spoil a person:)
What's "schlag"?<BR><BR>Doesn't sound like food.<BR><BR>Sounds like the stuff that is drained off from the smelting process (slag).
"Real" Greek salad has no lettuce in it...just tomatoes, cucumber, olives, and feta...and the feta in Greece is nothing like here...it's creamy, not dry and crumbly.
Jason,<BR><BR>"Schlag" is a whipped cream. I think it might be German - please correct me if I'm wrong!<BR><BR>It's delicious!
Thanks, David.<BR><BR>German words/recipes don't generally sound appetizing.<BR><BR>Knockwurst (a bad beating)<BR>Sauerkraut (German with a bad attitude)<BR>Sauerbraten (German kid with a bad attitude)<BR>Griesuppe (soup with too much lard and oil)<BR>Oxtail stew (makes Scottish food sound appetizing)
