G'hop,
Wine in Colo!?!?! :-?
There HAS to be some joke in there but I'm too pooped to pop!

As for taking SF for granted, I got The Pink from SF Chron's Sunday paper and it looks like they started a regular feature where a SF resident goes out and plays tourist.
Pretty nice.

They also reprinted a Herb Caen <rest his "3 Dot" soul> column from '66.
"Since the tourists add about $61 million dollars to our economy-let 'em call it "Frisco".

flygirl Jun 29th, 2004 01:15 PM

I can't keep up! I printed this, and it's grown! man-oh-man.

less than 44 hours to go!

Kal Jun 29th, 2004 01:26 PM

I was just looking at the XOX Truffles website.
I'm drooling over the truffs and Mrs Kal's drooling over Jean Marc...again! :-O

Keep it coming people! I may be flying to Boston later in the year, and getting some fresh ideas here. Who knew See's candies may be popular when several European varieties are readily available! =D>

Grasshopper Jun 29th, 2004 01:31 PM

Funny thing, Kal... It was Frisco (Colorado) where I was trying to buy the wine. Point being, sheesh.. it's pricey as heck here (and you can't buy it on Sunday!) But I picked up a brochure about the new Colorado Wine Country (in and around Grand Junction). I will have to check it out.

J_Correa Jun 29th, 2004 02:29 PM

I could never live anywhere that you couldn't buy wine on sundays ;)

MelissaHI Jun 29th, 2004 02:30 PM

Don't forget stuff from the LUSH store near Union Square!

lenleigh Jun 29th, 2004 02:37 PM

Everyone is talking about food, I first thought about magnets and mini trolley cars!

We have See's in Colorado so I wasn't aware it was that hard to find in other states. We had See's in Arizona too, I've never liked it as much as some of the other chocolate makers.

We also have about 5 bottles of wine from our latest trip to Napa which could only be bought from the winery or online.

Kal Jun 29th, 2004 02:38 PM

It figgers' Mels would remember a "lush" store! :*

J Cor,
Was it the Ant or the G'hopper that would plan ahead?

Ghopp,
Colo Wine Co...just flows off the tongue, yah?

MelissaHI Jun 29th, 2004 10:26 PM

Why, yes, Kal!!! You can call me "luscious"--or, Lush for short! hahahaaaaaaaaaaa

Suzie Jun 30th, 2004 07:37 AM

We brought back the sweatshirts we had to buy because we dressed improperly in July! ;)

flygirl Jun 30th, 2004 09:13 AM

thanks everyone!

how about logo T-shirts (cheesy or not?)

they are cheap, easy to transport, and I can think of a few people who might like one. I am thinking Hard Rock, or the like - something which is unique to SF (restaurant, bar, coffee shop, etc etc.)

thoughts? I am at the Parc 55, is it near the Hard Rock? thank you.

elizabeth_reed Jun 30th, 2004 09:29 AM

A pin that reads "I walked the Golden Gate Bridge." [true!]

SAB Jun 30th, 2004 10:14 AM

There is a Hard Rock on Pier 39, not within walking distance of the Parc. IMHO since it is a chain that is everywhere a t shirt from there really isn't a unique item. The best cheesy t shirts are probably anything with Alcatraz or the Golden Gate Bridge. A gift that I sometines take to people from SF is little wooden cable cars that can be used as Christmas tree ornaments.

Tee-shirt from the Lucky 13 Bar on Market Street near Church. You'll have to go there. It'll either be a high or low point of your trip, depending on your perspective. I'm in the neighborhood frequently, so I went, had a beer, listened to Iron Maiden on the jukebox and got my tee with the snarling kittycat. People have literally tried to buy it off my body in various places - it's that good.

dovima Jun 30th, 2004 11:51 AM

The tee-shirt is that good, I mean!

Anyway, don't let the faux-tough exterior of the place discourage you. It's actually very friendly. The last time I was there, patrons had submitted photos of their own pet black cats for display on the counter - it was a nice touch.

flygirl Jun 30th, 2004 12:07 PM

Dovima, should I take pictures of my own little darlings for their counter?

here_today_gone2Maui Jun 30th, 2004 12:10 PM

Usually a cold.

Deblynn Jun 30th, 2004 12:14 PM

Hey "Apseals", what beach is it specifically south of the Cliff House, that has the sand dollars all over? My kids love finding sea shells along the beach. You usually don't find that in southern california where we usually vacation. I wouldn't want to miss this beach! Thanks.

dovima Jun 30th, 2004 12:22 PM

Why not? Pets are a good icebreaker anywhere! I believe there are several styles and logos, but the most popular continues to be the design matching the sign on the exterior of the bar (believe me, you'll know the place when you see it.)
