Truly American - Have you ever ....
I recently heard a Charlie Daniels song, about what a great country this is, and things that you can only do here. Here's my list. (I haven't done 'em all). What are yours?

Hmm... I've done 15 on your list! I can add a few more:
Taken a boat through downtown Chicago on the river with a cold drink in my hand on a hot summer day. Spent lazy summer days basking in the sun on Lake Geneva. Driven in Minneapolis in an ice storm with -70 windchill. Sipped wine in Napa Valley. Sipped many a brew at Wrigley Field. And Fenway. And the old County Stadium. And Shea Stadium. And Busch Stadium. And Comiskey Park. And Soldier Field. Walked the Freedom Trail. Lost money in Vegas. Won money in Vegas. Rolled the dice at Ho-Chunk. Ate at supper clubs in the northwoods of Wisconsin. Got stranded in a snow storm in Elkton, SD. Stayed on the Queen Mary. Took an Amtrak for a 3-day ride through the Rockies from Chicago to L.A. |

- attended the Native American film festival
- ate Navajo bread - MacDonald's with children (and without in Switzerland, just for a glass of OJ though!) - wore jeans (Levi's) - learned the caterpillar tractor was invented in Stockton, CA - voted by mail - saw bisons in the Golden Gate park - went to a baseball game (once was enough! - so boring) |

Marched in my small New England town's 4th of July parade. Then walked over to the fireman's cookout for a hot dog and strawberry shortcake while being entertained by a bluegrass band.

From the original list. . .I have eaten a DC fish boil, been to Opry (for a hair cut, but that counts, right?), been to a county fair, been to a presidential library, seen the unknown soldier tomb, cut down my own Christmas tree, carved a pumpkin, eaten a chicken fried steak, attended homecoming football game, been to Sears Tower ob deck, rode the biggest wooden roller coaster (the Beast), and watched (not rode) a San Fran cable car. Are we related??? :) From others lists: I have taken a boat tour in Chicago, sipped wine in Napa, sipped a brew at Wrigley and the Cell, walked near the Golden Gate, stood atop the Eiffel tower, played spin the bottle and was awestruck by the Grand Canyon. Had cocktails at Windows on the World, top of the twin towers Trade Center. Sat in a window seat and was in awe of New York City in 1981. So glad I got to do it. Still have the match box in my collection. An especially priceless American experience.

The fishy song is very near and dear to this former Brownie's heart. I think the song goes: "Have you ever seen a fishy on a cold winter day? Have you ever seen a fishy out swimmin' in the bay? With his hands in his pockets and his pockets in his pants, have you ever seen a fishy do the hootchie cootchie dance? You never have! You never will!" Learned it almost twenty years ago and I still remember the little dance that goes with it. :D |

I have: * been to Colonial Williamsburg * gone to Boston, and visited site of Boston Tea Party * carved pumpkins * eaten watermelon on the fourth of july, as well as fried chicken and potato salad * visited Chalmette battlefield in Louisiana, and looked at the clover with red splashes on the leaves, said to symbolize the spilled blood of Confederate soldiers. * danced the two step at a fais do do, then eaten boiled crawfish, corn on the cob, and sausage from a huge pot. * taken a paddlewheel cruise down the Mississippi River, and thought about Tom and Huck. * thanked God I was born in a country where ANYONE, even if they're born poor white trash, can aspire to become the President of the United States. * dated a man I normally wouldn't have looked at twice, but for the fact that he had an English accent!!! |

And...as someone else mentioned....have you ever driven on Daytona Beach? Have you ever rode your bike hoping you don't run into sand flies (especially if you live near the Niagara River)? Have you ever lived in a neighborhood where almost everyone is of the same ethnicity, yet a few blocks away everyone else shares a different ethnicity, yet you all get along? |

- Got lost on the NYC subway - Walked the Freedom Trail - Ate lobsters and walked the Marginal Way in Maine - Eaten Italian in Boston's north end - Wandered down Devon street in Chicago wondering how the Pakistani, Indian, and Jewish population manage to live so close together here. - Been to a rodeo in Texas - walked through the desert (well a small part of it) in Arizona thinking it looked like mars. - Eaten fried fish on Michigan's UP and taking a dip in a freezing Lake Superior -Eaten a slice of 'white pizza' on the streets of new york at 4am -attended a county fair in Indiana -cheered for the Red Sox in a bar in Brooklyn and walked away with my life -ate at a truck stop in Arkansas -gotten into a shouting match with a taxi driver -taken a train 1/2 across the country -gone to CBGB's -drank too much at the South Side Irish parade in Chicago -visited Hatch Show Print in Tennessee -drove through the Appalachian mountains |
