Things I Love About Maui
Oahu Fodoites did this a few years ago for Oahu. I think it is time to do it for Maui.
I loved the tamales at Maui's Best Tamales up in Pukalani. I love the beaches of Makena. I love the diversity. I love watching the windsurfers/kitesurfers at Hookipia. I love walking the streets of Lahaina on a Friday night. I love Arabella Ark in Kipahulu for unique, beautiful raku pottery. Anyone else, or should I just keep going? |
I love the magnificent sunsets

I loved the smell of plumeria and tuberose.
I loved the bamboo forest along Hana Hwy. I loved Kona coffee. I loved the snorkeling. I loved getting Maui'd. |
I love talking to the locals.
I love watching humpback whales. I love going out whale watching with Captain Steve. I love the Old Lahaina Luau. I love the sunsets. I love eating at Aloha Mixed Plate. I love Warren & Annabelle's show. I love going snorkeling with PWF on the Manutea. In short, as far as I'm concerned - Maui No Ka Oi!!! |
I love looking at Lahaina from a boat offshore.

I love driving up to the top of Haleakala through the area of turbulence and emerging in the clear for a beautiful hike into the crater.
I love Maui fruits, whichever are in season when we are there. I love upcountry protea farms. |
I loe that so many tourists prefer to be sequestered ( another posters term!) in their Grand Resorts.
I love talking story with Wendy at Hailimaille while devouring Sashimi Neopolean I love mornings in Hana I love Armin I love the Hula Show at the Four Seasons Lounge I love the crab,mac wontons at Hula Grille I love the lava pools before the crowds arrive. I love the tourists that HATE the road to Hana! LOL I love Pele the bartender ----- oh never mind wrong island!!!!! |
I love when you walk out of the plane into the breezeway in the airport and you smell the air, and feel the warm humid breeze. ( It's not like the blast oven that greets you in Kona.)

I'll add: I love the nude surfers (well...some of them...) at Little Beach. I love stargazing at Makena beach. I love walking the King's Highway. I love the bamboo forests. I love the "The Pools Are Closed For Swimming" sign posted at The Pools of Oheo. I love the pool at Hotel Hana Maui. |
I love pigging out at the Sunday Brunch at the Maui Prince!

I love walking down to the barefoot bar at Hula Grill on our first afternoon, digging my feet into the sand, ordering my first drink, looking out at the sparkling water and thinking. . .ahhh! I love the smell. I love waking up really early on the first morning and walking the beach, watching the sunrise. I just love Maui!

I love shopping at the Maui Swap Meet on Saturday morning. My favorite things to buy are fresh flowers, homemade jams and jellies, wearable art by Mark Jamgochian, and various tropical bath gels, lotions, etc.

I loooovvee Hawaii Fabric Mart on Kaahumanu street. I could spend hours in that place.

I LOVE the pineapple upside cake at Haliimaile General Store.
I love walking around Makawao. I love flying Pacific Wings to Hana instead of driving. I love the onion rings at Maui Onion. I love the waterslide at the Westin Maui! Yeehaw! I love the lavender farm in upcountry. |
I used to love Shishido Mochi + Manju in Wailuku (closed now).
Komoda Bakery cream puffs in Makawao. Tasaka Guriguri in Maui Mall. Notice how I just post about the food?! |
I love the fish tacos at Paia Fish Market.

I love bodysurfing at the South Maui beaches.
I love eating the shave ice with vanilla ice cream from the snack stand in Kihei. I love visiting the Tedeschi Winery and tasting the pineapple sparkling wine. I love snorkeling in the Ahihi Marine Reserve. I love sunbathing at the beaches. I love the mai tais and lava flows from Kimo's. I love dining at the Halimaile General Store. I love to visit the black sand beach while driving to Hana. I love the banana bread from the stand on the Hana Highway. I'm leaving for Maui Saturday, and CAN'T WAIT! :-) |

I love the sunsets from the Wailea area!
I love Big Beach. I love dinner at the Humuhumu restaurant at the Grand Wailea. I love sunning and snorkeling on Mokapu Beach. I love walking along the sidewalk that goes between all the Wailea Resorts. I love walking on Keawakapu Beach. |
I love spotting whales from shore and then trying to predict where they will pop up again.

The art galleries in Lahaina, Maui Hands, Sherrie Reeves T-shirts, the buffet breakfast at the Hyatt, the sunsets.

I love the Bailey House Museum in Wailuki, particularly the small gift shop with its nice selection of books, CD's, and local crafts. I also like sitting in the museum's peaceful back yard, gazing up at the West Maui mountain looming in the background. (I always hope Kealii Reichel will stroll by, humming "Maunaloa". He used to work at the museum, and was inspired by this scene, also)
I also love the look of Haleakala and Upcountry from below in So. Maui. My favorite times are early morning, when the sky turns pink and purple as the sun rises from behind the hump of the mountain; and early evening when the lights start twinkling on the slopes. |
I loved the early bird special at Kihei Steak House (when it was still around)

I love watching the uninitiated tourists drop all their beach stuff and run for the water at hot, hot, HOT Kaanapali Beach. LOL

I love the people of maui
I love maui brewing company I LOVE Serendipity with the best hawaiian print clothes. I also love the maui prince breakfast buffet. I love the maui ocean center and when my 5 year old beats me at miniature golf across the parking lot. I love the lava flows poolside at the westin and then the mai tais at the poolside bar at night. Hell I just love maui period! |

I love shave ice to wash away that saltwater taste in your mouth I love snorkeling at Molokini Crater I love walking the grounds of The Grand Wailea. That's gotta be what heaven looks like. I love The Road To Hana. I love Mama's Fishouse at sunset I hate leaving. |

I love the sound of the ocean at night.
I love the breezes. I love the sunrise and sunset. I love the Hawaiian music and culture. I love the fresh fruit. I love snorkeling and being able to lose time while snorkeling. I love shopping in Lahaina I love those little pesty brown birds. I love the aquarium. I love the road to Hana (and especially when we went off the beaten path on the dirt roads). I love the Haleakala crater. I LOVE MAUI!!! |
I love the Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center in Makawao.
I love the Hana Cultural Center and Museum. I love how familiar it felt even after a 10 year absence. |
