To Dayle, who posted Vernal, Utah as one of his worst--Vernal is in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, accessible to wonderful camping, and has a great Laundromat. AND, its called "Vernal"! What more could you want?
|
Oooooh, a great laundromat! I'm there!

Well, I guess I would add in for Fresno being pretty nasty...it's kind of weird when one place strikes your as spooky or negative, yet otherpeople love and rave about it. There is a town on the central coast of CA called Summerland that appears to be idyllic.. antique shops, nice weather, pretty buildings. But it just creeps me out big time, like all the residents... remind me of Children of the Corn...(I am sure this is just MY problem) But I think I would jump off a cliff rather then live there though there is nothing particularly wrong with it.

I am surprised no one listed South Sioux City, Nebraska....the place where the Missouri river turns BROWN....it really is blue up in South Dakota..honest...I've seen it!

Heather: We would give anything to be back in Minneapolis. We lived in Edina for a number of years and now live in Southern CA and have traveled all over but still miss Mpls. Area. Traffic is nothing there compared to here - our rush hour runs from 5 A.M. - 10 A.M. and then 2 p.M. - 8 P.M. We never run into that in Mpls. Also have found all the people back there to be friendly, helpful and nice. There are always some exceptions everywhere, but for the most part it is great. Would certainly rather raise kids in MN. I agree - YEAH VIKINGS!!

WORST-In no order
1. Huston-concrete and asphalt swamp
2. Dallas Ft.Worth-a mutation of
huston
3. El Paso-the uglyest interstate
drive thru in USA
4. Oklahoma City-very very boring
5. San Antonio-gang bangers galore
|
So, how many Texas cities made the list of worsts? Looks like a state to be avoided.
|
Good to know what to avoid :-)
|
This is to "Nodubya." I love your e-mail name! As a long time Houston, Texas resident I must confess that most opinions of Texas cities are correct. Lack of culture, too hot, too redneck, horrendous traffic and, contrary to what Gov. Dubya says, dangerous levels of pollution. My family and I are looking to relocate.
|
Well, the line of questioning concerned "metro areas" - but why stick with the stated topic of conversation?

Personally, you can have ANY of the "metro" areas. I wouldn't live there, nor would I raise my children there. But I'm glad some of you do - and that you have the option to do so.

To those of you who don't like the South, GREAT! Stay where you are. The South is overrun with enough "Damn Yankees" as it is. They've discovered what a wonderful place it is to work and live and are moving south in droves! (The standing joke is What's the difference between a Yankee and a Damn Yankee? The Yankee comes down, visits and goes back home. The Damn Yankee comes down, likes it so much they decide to stay. And before you flame too much - I am very happily married to a Damn Yankee from a metro area who loves it in the South away from the big city!)

I AM CANADIAN!! You guys can argue about the worst places to live till the cows come home but believe me none of the cities you have mentioned come close to the Mexican boarder town I was in a couple of years ago. I walked across the bridge and had immediate culture shock. This is the ultimate worst place to live. It boarders on Texas not far from the San Antonio area which was very nice. Canada has its own bad areas like I never want to live in Toronto but British Columbia, Nova Scotia and Alberta are all very nice. New Brunswick also needs improvement. Too much logging going on we are going to lose all natural beauty. Plus, you could always live in Inuvit or Resolute Bay where there can be 24hr daylight or darkness depending on the season plus it is really cold!!!!!
|
Any where in West Viginia. Lived in Charleson for 3 years and it felt as if it was 1955. Totally behind the rest of the country in worldly knowledge, availability of basic goods and services, and culture.
|
Jennifer:

I agree that the Mexican cities you mentioned are certainly lacking. However the correct spelling is "border" and not boarder. BTW, are you Canadian by any chance? ( LOL ).

wichita kansas......the people, the drivers, too many minivans, suv's and pickup trucks. Where the *(&^% are the sportscars? and if your looking for good looking people don't come here! what i've seen there must be more ugly people here per capita than anywhere else in the world. Can't wait to move back to so.cal and its beaches or scottsdale az.

GOOD LORD! HAVE NONE OF YOU

SEEN SCRANTON?
|
On one of my many trips to California, I spent half a day in the City of Stockton, east of San Francisco. During this time, NOT ONE person smiled at me or my family, even though we met many people working in stores and restaurants. It was like something out of a movie. NEVER GO THERE.
|
I would never live in Philadelphia or Baltimore (City). The Inner Harbour area is a nice place to visit, but the rest of the downtown area isn't nice at all in my opinion.

Tell me more about San Antonio. I actually just came back from checking it out just last week (having never been to TX) and found it quiet charming. Lots to do, lots of history, lots of good restaurants, inexpensive housing, low cost of living, no state taxes, etc. I have the opportunity to relocate there for a few years and am thinking of doing it. Why do you think it's a bad place to live in?
|
Wow!! I agree with some, but disagree with others. Seattle really is nice. You just have to know where to go, and when. It doesn't rain all the time!! :) There are a lot of small towns here in WA state that I would NEVER live in! But I guess there are places like that everywhere. The worst place I have ever travelled to was Fresno-way way too hot and nothing is there!!
|
About 20 miles from nowhere in northeast indiana is a frightening little burg called Butler. The region it is situated in has lots to offer families, rolling hills, beautiful lakes, quaint small towns, friendly well-adjusted people. Butler has managed to avoid all of this. The sky is always gray over this town. The ground alternates between mud and dust. Housing options seem to range from tree and windowless trailer parks to the more upscale government apartments. I think its residents pull thier teeth out for recreation. I did family services in and around this town for three years. I believe there is something in the water that makes people want to abuse their children. I am convinced the portal to hell is located here.

Well, two places come to mind, not cities but places I would never consider living in:

TEXAS - land of bragging assholes and seems like every one has two names, like Billy Bob, Tommy Ray, Sammy Joe, etc. The whole state and all who live there suck

UTAH - one word will suffice to say why I would never live in Utah MORMONS...
